Biography

Dr. Nathan B. Leonard was born on 7 July 1760 in Bridgewater, Plymouth County Massachusetts.1 He and Anstress Kent were married on 1 June 1782 in Bridgewater, Bridgewater, Plymouth, Massachusetts. He died on 9 April 1854 at age 93 in New Bedford, Bristol County, Massachusetts.
He was an eye witness to the battle of Bunker Hill. He enlisted in Col. John Bailey's Regiment in 1776. He was in sundry expeditions with General Sullivan and LaFayette, in 1778 in Rhode Island and in 1780 on the frontier when the Indians burned Royalton, VT. He was furloughed and in active service to the close of the war in 1783. When off duty he studied medicine with Dr. Gad Hitchock. At the close of the war he studied with Dr. Edward Winslow of Swansea, MA. In 1784 he went to Warwick, RI, to practice and from thence to Providence, afterwards to Providence. He lived subsequently in Westmoreland, NH and in Barnard, VT. He eventually gave up the practice of medicine, saying it was "a humbug on the people."

The 1850 Census lists him, his wife, and his daughter Thankful living in Providence, RI. Dr. Nathan B. Leonard had person sources.2

Biography

Capt. Ebenezer Leonard was born on 17 March 1710 in Preston, New London County, Connecticut. He and Esther Amos were married on 6 May 1730 in Preston, New London County, Connecticut.1 He died after 1765.
He was appointed by the General Assembly of the Colony to be Captain of the second company of Preston. He represented the town as a Deputy to the General Assembly in 1744, 1745, 1747, and 1750. He later was one of the founders and moved to Worthington, Hampshire County, MA, when settlement began there in 1765.

The Rev. War pension file of another Ebenezer Leonard, son of Nicholas Leonard, includes this Ebenezer's marriage to Esther Amos and seven of Ebenezer and Esther's first nine children, missing the first Elizabeth and son Lt. Ebenezer Leonard. Capt. Ebenezer Leonard had person sources.2 He was baptized on 8 May 1710 in Preston (now Griswold), New London County, Connecticut.

Biography

Nathan Leonard was born on 22 August 1717 in Preston, New London County, Connecticut. He and Abigail Herrick were married on 12 November 1739 in Preston, New London County, Connecticut. He died in 1783 at age ~66 in Worthington, Massachusetts.
Information on this branch added by Steve Stuart, a descendant.

Nathan was made Ensign when his brother was made Lieutenant, October 1751. He was made Lieutenant of the 8th Company, 1st Regiment of troops raised for the expedition to Crown Point. In May 1756 he was made Captain of the 2nd Company of Preston. He represented the town in the Legislature in 1759. DAR Patriot Index.

He removed to Worthington before 1768, probably about the time the town was founded in 1765. During that year a bill was passed by the Provincial Congress of Massachusetts "creating the new plantation called Number Three in the County of Hampshire into a town by the name of Worthington. Nathan Leonard was chosen to call a meeting of the inhabitants of the town to elect officers. He was chosen Moderator and one of the 3 selectmen of the town. In 1775 he was chosen as representative to the General Court. He was one of the first two deacons of the church chosen in 1771. Nathan Leonard had person sources.1 He was baptized on 3 October 1717 in Preston (now Griswold), New London County, Connecticut.
