thirty-four years of age. His wife, who was Frances Marsh, and whom he married before leaving England, followed him to America in December, 1635. Isaac Buck went to Scituate, Massachusetts, where he bought land. In the history of that town he is described as follows: "Lieutenant Isaac Buck was a brother of John Buck, and was in Scituate before 1647. * * * In 1660 he built a house near the harbour, on the Duckfield, so-called even now. * * * He was a very useful man, often engaged in public business, and the clerk of the town of many years. He was a lieutenant in King Phillips' war and repulsed the Indians with great loss from Scituate in March, 1676. He died in 1697." Thomas Buck was the eldest son of Isaac Buck, and he settled in Bridgewater, Massachusetts, before 1712. Mathew Buck was a son of Thomas Buck, and he also lived in Bridgewater. He was the father of Daniel Buck, of Revolutionary fame, already referred to, who was born in 1762. Judge Daniel Buck, of whom this sketch treats, was born in Boonville, New York, September 8, 1829. He received the rudiments of an education in the common schools and finished at Rome Academy, Oneida County, and Lowville Academy, Lewis County, New York. He came to Minnesota May 15, 1857, and pre-empted land at Madelia. In that year he settled in Blue Earth County. After leaving school he studied law, and when he came to Minnesota he was actively engaged in its practice. He died on 8 March 1696 at age ~94 in Scituate, Plymouth County, Massachusetts.

MotherFear Southworth (b. 3 February 1710, d. 23 April 1784)

Family: Leonard

SonSamuel Leonard+ (b. about 1750, d. 1824)

Biography

Timothy Leonard was born on 19 March 1733/34 in Middleborough, Plymouth County, Massachusetts. Birth of Timothy, son of Joseph and Fear, noted in 3 different MA records. But there seem to be no marriage, death, burial, nor birth of child records for him.1,2 He died before 1776 in Middleborough, Plymouth County, Massachusetts.
ECL says "he never heard any more about him." Fanny Leonard Koster says the son of Timothy was Samuel, who married Sarah Williams. Elijah Leonard's (his grandson's) autobiography calls her Mary Williams. WW in Boston Transcript of 12 Jan 1920 has this Timothy dying at age one year, but no source. If he were still alive after 1776 when Joseph Sr. died or 1783 when Joseph 3rd died, he would have been mentioned in court papers.

Note in ECL manuscript, probably added by GML, "Boston Transcript July 15, 1939: Wanted, ancestry of Gideon Leonard, born September 7, 1813, died September 17, 1867, and who married Harriet A. Waldo. They lived in East Granville, NY. I believe that he is a grandson or great-grandson of Timothy Leonard, born March 19, 1734. Gideon, brother of Timothy, had a son Gideon born November 11, 1786." A Timothy Leonard was elected a town officer at Granville, Washington Co, NY, in 1791-96. A Timothy Leonard, household of 2, one male, one female, listed in the 1790 Census of Granville. In the 1800 Census, the Timothy Leonard household included 1 male 45+, 3 males 16-26, and 8 females, 1 26-45. The Granville Timothy was a descendant of John Leonard of Springfield, not James Leonard of Taunton.

Death of Timothy is not recorded in Middleboro VR's. Source of descendancy to Samuel is from Ontario Genealogical Society records (Family Chart #484).

It's peculiar that Timothy would have had a son, Samuel, when he was only 16 or 17 years old. This bears checking. Fanny Koster Leonard's charts show Samuel as the only son of Timothy. Her Timothy is the son of Elkanah and Charity rather than Joseph and Fear. This needs examination and proof. Whom did Timothy marry, and when? Is there more to this story? Was Timothy the result of a nonmarital relationship? If so, his father must have been a Leonard since the Y-DNA matches on both sides of descendants.

A Timothy Leonard served in Capt. Abial Peirce's company, Col Nicholas Dike's Regiment, along with Jonathan Leonard. This is a different Timothy Leonard. So, also, is the Timothy Leonard who lived for a time in Troy, NY, and then moved to Smyrna, NY. Timothy Leonard had person sources.3

Biography

Walter Bradford Leonard was born on 13 December 1867 in Bristol, Rhode Island.1 He and Frances Lorraine Temple were married on 24 November 1892 in Providence, Providence County, Rhode Island.2 He died on 20 February 1955 at age 87 in Providence, Rhode Island. VR's - 515 He was buried at Section 3, Lot 2, also known as lot #617, in North Burial Ground, Bristol, Rhode Island.
He was apparently named after Walter Bradford who married Sarah Macomber in June 1845 and died suddenly in late June 1858. Walter Bradford was apparently a close friend of John H. Leonard.

In the 1880 Census, Walter Bradford Leonard was living with his brother-in-law, Charles W. Cross, in Providence, RI. He isn't listed in the 1900 Census, but does appear in the 1910 Census as a fireman, living at 206 Power Street, Providence, with his wife and daughter next to Maria F. (Leonard) Waldron and her daughter Bessie and grand-daughter Marion M. Waldron, and John H. Leonard, brother of Walter and Maria. Walter was also listed in the 1910 Census at the fire station on South Main Street, Providence.

In the 1920 Census, Walter and Frances were living at 208 Power Street, Providence, with his daughter, Madeline, now married to Edward Sweeney and grandchild Leonard Sweeney. Walter was a captain in the fire department. Previously, Walter had been listed as living at 203 Power Street.

In the 1930 Census, he is listed as living at 61 Colonial Road in Providence, RI, a foreman in a coal yard. He and his wife were living with their daughter, her husband, and her daughter. His wife Fannie was also 61 and was born in VT, as were her parents.

My grandfather, Walter B. Leonard, styled himself Walter B. Leonard II or 2nd. When I asked him about it, he said there was another Walter B. Leonard in Providence, a deputy fire chief, and he used the "2nd" so that mail would not get mixed up. He never mentioned that the other Walter was his uncle.

Walter is buried in the plot with his father and mother, next to his brother, John H. Leonard. His wife does not appear to be buried there. Walter Bradford Leonard had person sources.3
