Parents

FatherNathaniel Hoar (b. 30 March 1656, d. before 1745)
MotherSarah Wilbore (b. 18 March 1661, d. before 1745)

Family: Sarah (or Susan) Macomber (b. about 1693, d. 13 January 1753)

SonJacob Hoar (b. 7 July 1724, d. 24 March 1736)

DaughterAnna Hoar (b. 1729, d. 1763)
SonPhilip Hoar (b. 14 September 1734, d. 14 September 1822)

Biography

William Hoar was born on 19 April 1687 in Taunton, Bristol County, Massachusetts.1 He and Sarah (or Susan) Macomber were married about 1715. He died after 1749 in Taunton, Bristol County, Massachusetts.
Source of birth: MA VR's. Source of children: ancestry.com.

Another William Hoar married a Susanna Brown in Boston April 26, 1711 , per Boston, MA, marriages.

Did they have a second son, Jacob, named after the first, b. sometime after 1736, d. 1756?

As to the children of William Hoar and Sarah Macomber, Norton T. Horr (author of : A Record of Descendants of Hezekiah Hoar) says:
"A careful search of all known records fails to disclose the names of his (William Hoar's) children, except Anna. He [William Hoar] and his brother Isaac were the only ones of the name then in Taunton whose children are not known. There is strong evidence to believe that he had: Jacob, d. 1756, Ruth, Anna who married (Seth) Hodges; and Philip".

Roz Edson thinks it has become accepted, by now, that Anna (who married Seth Hodges) was dau. of Jonathan Hoar and not William Hoar based on what the Macomber genealogy says on pg. 14: "Sept 8, 1735 Jonathan Hoar petitioned the court to appoint a guardian for his daughter Anna, who was then seven years old and had a claim on the estate of John Macomber through her mother".

The majority of genealogical pages concerning this family have John Macomber and Hannah Bobbit as parents of Sarah. A minority have Nathaniel Macomber and Priscilla Southworth as her parents. References are to other genealogists, not records. William Hoar had person sources.2

Sarah (or Susan) Macomber

SonJacob Hoar (b. 7 July 1724, d. 24 March 1736)
DaughterRuth Hoar+ (b. 1728, d. 19 February 1815)
DaughterAnna Hoar (b. 1729, d. 1763)
SonPhilip Hoar (b. 14 September 1734, d. 14 September 1822)

Biography

Sarah (or Susan) Macomber was born about 1693 in Taunton, Bristol County, Massachusetts. William Hoar and she were married about 1715. She died on 13 January 1753 at age ~60 in Taunton, Bristol County, Massachusetts.
Thomas Macomber of Taunton was appointed guardian of his brother, William's, children: Abiel, William, Anna, and Sarah, dtd. November 8, 1715. Thomas' father was John, will dtd. January 27, 1721, Taunton. Mentions all four children. A witness was Eliphalet Leonard. Abiel became Sarah's guardian in March 1731. But where's Susan? Or was it Sarah of Marlborough, MA, he married? Conflicting information. A Sarah Hoskins married a William Hoar also -- that William Hoar, a Deacon, was born December 30, 1721, in Middleboro, son of Samuel Hoar.

OneWorldTree offers conflicting info, having Susan marrying (1) Judah Chase before marrying William Hoar and having son Philip when she was in her 60's.

Also, there's confusion as to whether it was Sarah Macomber or Susan Macomber.

Was her date of death 13 Jan 1757 or 13 Jan 1753?

Or was Sarah, b. 1683 in Marshfield, daughter of John Macomber, b. 1640 Marshfield, d. aft. 21 Jan 1717/18 Marshfield, m. Hannah Babbitt, the parents of Susan/Sarah?
