Solomon Leonard was born on 13 March 1759 in Killingly, Windham County, Connecticut. He and
Sarah Hanks were married on 27 May 1784 in Windsor, Berkshire County, Massachusetts. He died on 21 June 1842 at age 83 in Marion, Wayne County, New York.
Per his statement to receive a Revolutionary War pension, Solomon was born 13 Mar 1759 in Killingly, Windham Co., CT, removed to Windsor, Berkshire Co., MA, removed next to Plainfield, NH, then to Pawlet, Rutland Co., VT, and finally to Marion, Wayne Co., NY. He may have lived in Lanesborough, which was first settled in 1753 and later in Windsor, which was first settled in 1767
He enlisted as a substitute for his father, Jesse Leonard, for 6 months in Jun 1776 in Killingly, Windham Co., CT. He served in Capt. Crosby's company, Col. Tyler's regiment. He continued to serve in short term enlistments until Mar 1781, when he signed on for a three-year enlistment in the regular army. He was discharged in Dec 1783 at West Point.
According to the statement in his pension file, he was born in Killingly, Windham County, CT, moved from there to Windsor, Berkshire County, MA, from there to Plainfield, New Hampshire, from there to Pawlet, VT, and finally to Marion, Wayne Co., NY. His pension file lists all of his children, his father, and his wife.
Jessie Leonard was living in Windsor in 1790. The only eligible Jessie in my data base is a Jessie, b. 1746 in Mendham, NJ, son of William Leonard of the Solomon line. Solomon is listed in Windsor in the 1800 Census with a family of 9. Jessie Leonard is listed in 1800 with a family of 2. There's also a Barnice Leonard with a family of 4 in the 1800 Census. Solomon appears with a family of 9 in 1810. There are no Leonards listed in Pawlet in 1790 or 1800, so the assumption is made that he moved there after 1800.
Solomon made out a will, never validated, in 1831 naming his wife Sarah, sons Jacob, Samuel, and Solomon, and grandsons Milo and Truman Pepper.
He served in the VT militia during the Revolutionary War, but Fold3 doesn't list him as a pensioner. Solomon Leonard had person sources.
