Biography

Ruth Hoar Leonard was born on 3 October 1807 in Massachusetts. Daniel Leonard and she were married on 8 December 1823 in Norton, Bristol County, Massachusetts.1 George W. Leonard and she were married on 3 April 1833. George Ransome and she were married after 1853 in Massachusetts. She died on 2 January 1881 at age 73 in Brockton, Plymouth County, Massachusetts. She was buried at Pleasant Street Cemetery in Raynham, Massachusetts.
In the 1850 Census, she was living with her husband, George, and their family. In the 1860 Census, she was living with son Melvin G. and his wife in Dighton. In the 1870 Census, she was living in Taunton, "keeping house" apparently in the household of Liba Babbett. In the 1880 Census, she was living with son Daniel, Hannah, his wife, and Augusta Leonard, 19, their daughter.

The White Family Genealogy says that Ruth Hoar Leonard married first, Daniel Leonard of Norton; second, George Leonard, brother of Daniel, her first husband; Daniel and George were, perhaps, sons of James and Eunice (Smith) Leonard. The Lothrop and Field genealogies also have Daniel and George as sons of James and Eunice Smith Leonard. That's different from what's here: Daniel and George being sons of Daniel, who is son of Seth and Ruth Hoar. Which is correct?

When Ruth married George, she was listed as "of Easton." A Ruth Leonard, dau of Isaac Leonard of Easton, was born 22 Dec 1806 and is the wife of this George in some accounts..

Note that her sister, Dinah, married a Field (Stillman Field).

SonWillie Henry Leonard (b. 21 March 1866, d. 13 September 1866)

Biography

George Washington Burt Leonard was born on 15 September 1815 in Taunton, Bristol County, Massachusetts. He and Priscilla Ann Wilbur were married on 15 September 1843. He and Angeline Spencer Baker were married about 1869 in Illinois. He and Luerrena Palmenter were married on 15 September 1869. He and Eliza Jellison Worthly were married on 26 August 1903 in Wareham, Plymouth County, Massachusetts. This was his third marriage and her third marriage, according to the record. He was 87 and she was 72. His parents were William Leonard and Dinah Burt. Hers were Samuel Worthy and Asenath Sargent. He died senile gangrene of the toes on 6 June 1908 at age 92 in Taunton, Bristol County, Massachusetts. He was buried in 1908 at Pleasant Street Cemetery in Raynham, Massachusetts.

He was married four times:

The first was to Priscilla Ann Wilbur and occurred on 16 Sep 1843. She died 24 Mar 1866.

His second wife was Lurrena Palmenter. A date for this marriage has not been found.

The third marriage occurred about 1869. His third wife was Angelina Spencer Baker, daughter of Elkanah Baker and Eunice Park and widow of William P. Baker. The 1870 Census has him living in Flora, Boone Co., IL, with wife Angelina, 39, and children Edgar, Flora, Charles, Clarence, and unnamed baby Leonard. Apparently, the third marriage did not go well, and Angelina was listed as divorced and living in Indiana in the 1880 Census.

The fourth marriage occurred on 26 Aug 1903 in Wareham. He married Eliza Jellison Worthly. The marriage certificate for his fourth marriage gives his parents as William Leonard and Dinah Burt and her parents as Samuel Worthly and Asenath Sargent.. He was 87 and she was 72 when he married Eliza Worthly.

His death certificate from Massachusetts lists him as the son of William Leonard and Dinah Burt, with son William E. (Everett) Leonard reporting the death and burial in Raynham.

Check: Was he the son of Lemuel and Olive Leonard? Family Search says so, but this appears to be in error.. The birth of a twin of Nathaniel Leonard is recorded in Taunton VR's. But ECL/GML have George Washington Burt Leonard, son of Lemuel and Olive, as marrying Harriet Pittman, with a daughter, Abbie, resulting from the union. This was another George Washington Leonard. George W. B. Leonard and Priscilla Wilbur had 3 more children after 1854. George Washington Burt Leonard had person sources.1
