Biography

Capt. Barney Leonard, Jr., was born in 1790 in Bridgewater, Plymouth County Massachusetts. He and Lydia Sprague were married after 27 August 1815 in Bridgewater, Massachusetts, or Warwick, Ri.1 He died on 6 May 1847 at age ~57 in Providence, Rhode Island. He was buried in Scotland Cemetery, Bridgewater, Massachusetts.
He was also known as Barnabus and Barna, rarely Barney Leonard, Jr. Difference in birthdates: Harriot Standish Leonard gives 1791. He's not mentioned in the 1790 Census for the family. He served in the War of 1812. He was employed in Providence, RI, for some years.

His body was found floating in Providence Cove, and it is believed someone robbed him after blackjacking him and set his body adrift. The Cove at that time as far into Providence as the old railroad station (now refurbished into office space and virtually unrecognizable).

Silas Leonard was born in 1750 in Bridgewater, Plymouth County Massachusetts. He and Abigail ("Nabby or Nabba") Smith were married on 15 December 1785 in Bridgewater, Plymouth County Massachusetts. He died before 6 March 1800 in Sharon, Windsor County, Vermont.
In the 1790 Census, he was living in Sharon, Windsor Co., VT, with a wife and two daughters. He was a shoemaker by occupation. He was in church meetings in Sharon in 1796. He died in 1800. Administration of his estate went to Abida Smith at the request of his wife. Silas Leonard had person sources.1

Spencer Leonard was born on 18 August 1814 in Bridgewater, Plymouth County Massachusetts.1 He and Cementha Tabor Sturtevant were married on 12 August 1840 in Bridgewater, Plymouth County Massachusetts. He died in 1898 at age ~84.
The family was listed in Bridgewater in the 1850 Census. Spencer was a trader, dry goods seller, farmer, and owned real estate worth $1600. Isaac Sturtevant was living nearby (father-in-law?).He served in the State Legislature, was a selectman, assessor, overseer of the poor, member of the board of health, justice of the peace, enrolling officer during the Civil War, board of trustees of the Bridgewater Savings Bank, also President of the latter. He purchased an orange grove in Florida in the 1880's.

He was a son of the American Revolution and wrote requesting his grandfather, Samuel's, pension file in 1890 #29293. Spencer Leonard had person sources.2

He residedin Bridgewater, later in Wendell where he was selectman one year, removing from there to Middleboro where he served the town in the same capacity for several years. He was thrown from a carriage in Kingston and killed. Lewis Leonard had person sources.3
