Biography

Lt. George Leonard was born on 17 July 1753 in Middleborough, Plymouth County, Massachusetts.1 He and Mary Allen were married on 27 November 1777 in Middleborough, Plymouth County, Massachusetts.2 He died on 29 February 1832 at age 78 in Middleborough, Plymouth County, Massachusetts.3
He resided at "Four Corners," Nemasket, Middleborough. He had a bloomery at what was called the Tack Factory on the railroad line between Middleboro and Taunton. He was a lieutenant and a privateer in the Revolutionary War. He was chosen captain after his brother Benjamin's death, but he refused the honor. He had had enough of the military.

Was he George Leonard 2nd in the 1780's and 1790's? Was he the George Leonard who was appointed First Sergeant in 1788? And mentioned as Captain in 1808? And dealing in iron from abt. 1776 to 1810? Lt. George Leonard had person sources.4,5

Nehemiah Leonard was born on 17 August 1788 in Middleborough, Plymouth County, Massachusetts.1 He and Hannah Tinkham Clark were married on 24 February 1814 in Middleborough, Plymouth County, Massachusetts.2 He died on 25 October 1869 at age 81 in Middleborough, Plymouth County, Massachusetts.3
He was a merchant in New Bedford. He was first in business in Middleborough, later Rochester. He bought the forge at Handy's Mills in Rochester, and taking his oldest brother George into co-partnership, carried on the forge for some four or five years. He sold out to his brother, George, who remained in Rochester the rest of his life. Nehemiah went to New Bedford and commenced business on Orange Street. In four or five years he became a director of the Merchants Bank and agent for several whale ships. He went into the manufacture of oil and candlemaking. He erected a candle works at Leonard's wharf (Rotches Landing).

Biography

Samuel Leonard was born on 17 February 1791 in Middleborough, Plymouth County, Massachusetts.1 He and Hannah Taber were married on 2 October 1814 in Fairhaven, Bristol County, Massachusetts. He died on 25 October 1868 at age 77 in New Bedford, Bristol County, Massachusetts.
He was a merchant in New Bedford. He built for the firm of Rotch, Arnold and Russell an extensive salt works at "the cove." Later Rotch built the wharf locally known as Leonard's wharf. After a fire that destroyed his brother Nehemiah's works, he rebuilt the same. He had what was then the world's largest oil refinery in New Bedford. He was the first to make colored wax candles, which were used worldwide.

This was apparently the Samuel Leonard living in Middleborough in the 1790 Census, household of 3, 1 male over 16 and 2 females. Same in the 1800 Census. Samuel Leonard had person sources.3

Ephraim Leonard was born in 1764 in Middleborough, Plymouth County, Massachusetts. He and Mary ("Molly") Pratt were married on 22 July 1790 in Middleborough, Plymouth County, Massachusetts.1 He died on 19 August 1819 at age ~55 in Middleborough, Plymouth County, Massachusetts.2 He was buried at Eaton North Cemetery in woods back of Centre Street, near Cross Street, in Middleborough, Massachusetts.3
Estate was administered 3 Nov 1819 by James Leonard of Middleborough mentions Molly, widow of decedent. Ephraim Leonard had person sources.4
