Mercy Southworth was born on 11 May 1638 in Duxbury, Plymouth, Massachusetts. Samuel Freeman and she were married on 12 May 1658 in Eastham, Barnstable County, Massachusetts.

Samuel Freeman was born on 11 May 1639 in Plymouth, Plymouth County, Massachusetts. He and Mercy Southworth were married on 12 May 1658 in Eastham, Barnstable County, Massachusetts. He died on 25 November 1712 at age 73 in Eastham, Barnstable County, Massachusetts.

Lt. Nathaniel Southworth was born in May 1648 in Plymouth, Plymouth County, Massachusetts.¹ He and Desire Gray were married on 10 January 1671 in Plymouth, Massachusetts.² He died on 14 January 1711 at age 62 in Middleborough, Plymouth County, Massachusetts.¹ He was buried in Nemasket Cemetery, Middleborough, Plymouth, Massachusetts.¹

Nathaniel Southworth was elected Constable of Plymouth on June 5, 1678, and remained there until after all his children were born. At some point thereafter, he moved to Middleborough. By 1708 he was definitely "of Middleborough." He was a Lieutenant in the Massachusetts Militia. He was surveyor of highways in Plymouth in 1673 and was fined in 1675 10 s for refusing to aid the constable in the execution of his office. He was selectman for Plymouth, 1689 and 1691. He owned land in Tiverton, R.I. For many years the Southworth family owned large tracts of land in MIddleboro; some of the richest and most valuable land in that town belonging to them.

The descendants of Nathaniel Southworth and Desire Gray are Mayflower descendants through Desire (Mary Winslow, Mary Chilton, James Chilton). Lt. Nathaniel Southworth had person sources.^3,1

Elizabeth Southworth was born in 1661. Samuel Gallup and she were married on 12 May 1685 in Bristol, Rhode Island. She died on 15 August 1709 at age ~48 in Bristol, Rhode Island.

Doublecheck parentage of Elizabeth Southworth. There were probably several Elizabeth Southworths. This may or may not be the one born to Constant in 1654.

According to extensive research by Dorothy Chapman Saunders, this is the Elizabeth Southworth who was the daughter of Constant. After Constant died, his widow Elizabeth Collyer Southworth, two daughters, Elizabeth and Priscilla, and son William moved to Bristol. She was the one who was not to marry William Fobes, according to Constant's will. Marriage of this Elizabeth is not accepted by the Mayflower Society nor is it in "The Migration Begins," p. 1711.

She died from a fall from a horse. Elizabeth Southworth had person sources.¹ She was born in 1661 in Duxbury, Plymouth County, Massachusetts.

Alice Southworth was born in 1646 in Duxbury, Plymouth County, Massachusetts. Benjamin Church and she were married on 26 December 1667 in Duxbury, Plymouth County, Massachusetts. She died on 5 March 1719 at age ~73 in Little Compton, Rhode Island.

Benjamin Church was born about 1640 in Plymouth, Massachusetts. He and Alice Southworth were married on 26 December 1667 in Duxbury, Plymouth County, Massachusetts. He died on 17 January 1718 at age ~78 in Little Compton, Rhode Island.

He was the second major and the first colonel of the Regiment of the County of Bristol. He commanded an expedition to Casco Bay as colonel.

Benjamin removed from Duxbury in 1674 and settled first at Little Compton in 1675. He became a captain in Plymouth Colony's army in King Philip's War and led the expedition that killed King Philip.

In 1696 he removed to Freetown, MA, from Bristol and in 1704 to Little Compton. He was buried in 1718 with full military honors.

Mary Southworth was born in 1654 in Duxbury, Plymouth, Massachusetts. David Alden and she were married in 1674 in Duxbury, Plymouth, Massachusetts. She died after 28 March 1718.

William Pabodie was born in 1619 in Saint Albans, Herfordshire, England. He and Elizabeth Alden were married on 26 December 1644 in Duxbury, Massachusetts.¹ He died on 13 December 1707 at age ~88 at Commons Cemetery in Little Compton, Rhode Island.

#3 WILLIAM PABODIE2 (John1) was born in 1619 in England. He married, Dec. 26, 1644, at Plymouth, Mass., Elizabeth Alden, daughter of John and Priscilla (Mullens) Alden, born in 1623 at Plymouth. Elizabeth is supposed to have been the first white female child born in New England.
William, who grew up in Duxbury, Mass., is referred to in various documents of the period as a yeoman, boatman, planter, and wheelwright. He was also a land surveyor. On Nov. 1, 1648, four years after he was married, he bought from John Holland and Hopestill Foster of Dorchester, Mass., a dwelling house, garden, stables, land and meadow. He later bought additional tracts of land in Mattapoisett and Sepecan. At one point, on Oct. 27, 1680, he adjusted a boundary line between his lands and those of Mrs. Sarah Parke and William Brewster. He served as a Duxbury town officer and as a representative or deputy to the General Court at Plymouth, being repeatedly elected to the court from 1654 to 1663, then again in 1668, and continuously from 1671 to 1682. He was admitted a freeman of the colony June 5, 1651.
About 1684, he removed to Little Compton, then in Massachusetts but now in Rhode Island, where he had acquired a share in lands. Thus he established in Rhode Island what has come to be known as the Rhode Island branch of the family. He was a surveyor, school teacher,and served as secretary and record keper of he first proprieters in Little Compton. He died Dec. 13, 1707, in Little Compton. His widow survived for almost 10 years, dying May 31, 1717, in Little Compton.

March 22, 1692/3, Marah (Cobham) Browning, widow of Joseph Browning and daughter of Josiah and Mary Cobham or Marah (Browning) Newell, who d. in 1739; he d. June 28, 1732, in Barrington, Mass., (now R.I.); children born to John and Elizabeth: Hannah Rogers, John Rogers, Elizabeth Rogers, Ruth Rogers, Sarah Rogers.

iii. Mary, b. Aug. 7, 1648; m. Nov. 16, 1671, in Duxbury, Edward Southworth, son of Constant and Elizabeth (Collier) Southworth; lived in Duxbury; children: Mercy Southworth, Elizabeth Southworth, Thomas Southworth, Constant Southworth, Benjamin Southworth, John Southworth, Priscilla Southworth.

iv. Mercy, b. Jan. 2, 1649; m. Nov. 16, 1669, in Duxbury, John Simmons, son of Moses and Sarah (Chandler?) Line back is inadequately supported, according to "Ancestral Roots..." 8th edition, also Royal Descents of 600 Immigrants" by Gary Boyd Roberts. Lack of proof that Edward Southworth was the Leyden Pilgrim of the same name is problem.

Alice Carpenter was born on 3 August 1590 in Wrintham, Somerset, England. Edward Southworth and she were married on 28 May 1613 in Leyden, Holland. William Bradford and she were married on 14 August 1623 in Plymouth, Massachusetts. She died on 26 March 1671 at age 80 in Plymouth, Plymouth County, Massachusetts.

Wrentham or Wrington?

Thomas Southworth was born in 1617 in Leyden, Holland. He died on 8 December 1669 at age ~52 in Plymouth, Plymouth County, Massachusetts.

Thomas Southworth was born about 1548 in Samlesbury, Lancaster, England. He and Rosamond Lister were married in 1570 in Thornton, Yorkshire, England. He died on 30 November 1616 at age ~68 in Samlesbury, Lancaster, England.

He was High Sheriff of Lancashire, following his father to that office.

The ancestry of the Southworths, Pigots, Listers, Claytons, Lenthalls, etc., include discrepancies that need to be examined and resolved before one puts much store in them. Thomas Southworth had person sources.¹

Sir John Southworth, Knight, was born in 1526 in Samlesbury, Lancaster, England. He and Mary Assheton Gouland were married on 23 July 1547 in Leonards, Middleton, Lancashire, England. He died on 3 November 1595 at age ~69 in Samlesbury Hall, Lancaster, England.

Sir John Southworth was High Sheriff for Lancashire. They had 11 children, one of whom was Leonard Southworth.

Mary Assheton Gouland was born about 1530 in Runcorn, Cheshire, England. Sir John Southworth, Knight, and she were married on 23 July 1547 in Leonards, Middleton, Lancashire, England. She died in 1595 at age ~65 in Samlesbury, Lancashire, England.
