Capt. Nathaniel Leonard
M, #37738, b. 10 December 1748, d. 13 October 1823
Parents
Biography
Capt. Nathaniel Leonard was born on 10 December 1748 in Trenton, Mercer County, New Jersey. Born 1746? He and
Esther Heath were married on 14 August 1779 in Southampton, Bucks County, Pennsylvania. Certificate in Nathaniel's Rev. War pension file gives date and place of marriage (hard to read). He died on 13 October 1823 at age 74 at Henry in Henry (near new Lisbon), Henry County, Indiana. He was buried in 1824 at near New Lisbon in Dublin, Wayne, Indiana.
That Nathaniel is the son of this Samuel and Mary is a guess, based on county of residence. Linkage to Stephen Leonard through his mother could account for Zephaniahs in this line.
He was a captain in the Revolutionary Army in NJ (DAR). He was adjutant wagon master and forage master. He was entitled to a pension of $480 per annum. Esther died on 7 Jan 1846. Esther Leonard of Indiana was the widow of Nathaniel. The pension was payable to Zephaniah Leonard, Mary Curry, formerly Mary Leonard, James Leonard, Nathaniel Leonard, Elizabeth Cooper, formerly Elizabeth Leonard, Esther Harden, wife of William D. Harden, formerly Esther Leonard, John Leonard, and Nancy, widow of John Widows, formerly Nancy Leonard, all of whom were alive in May 1848 when application was made.
He apparently lived in Somerset County, NJ, in the 1780's. He applied to BLM for a bounty grant of land issued 11 Jun 1789 (#1272).
DAR # 421119. Pension file no. W-24513.
This Nathaniel Leonard tends to get mixed up with a Thomas Leonard who was a sergeant in the Revolutionary War and also married an Esther Heath. Both Esthers applied for Rev. War pensions, supported by their (different) sons, which were granted. Thomas Leonard lived in Beaver Falls, PA. Nathaniel b. 1746 or 1748 is called Thomas Nathaniel in many records.
The Sylvan Leonard branch claimed descendancy from this Thomas Leonard. The name, Nathaniel, was crossed out in Frank Bonner Leonard's application for SAR membership. Capt. Nathaniel Leonard served in the military on 1 January 1777 in New Jersey. He served in the military in February 1778 in New Jersey. He served in the military in June 1778 in New Jersey. He died on 15 October 1824 at age 75 in New Lisbon, Henry, Indiana.

Esther Heath
F, #37739, b. 1 January 1765, d. 10 June 1846
Parents
Biography
Esther Heath was born on 1 January 1765 in Bernardsville, Somerset County, New Jersey.
Capt. Nathaniel Leonard and she were married on 14 August 1779 in Southampton, Bucks County, Pennsylvania. Certificate in Nathaniel's Rev. War pension file gives date and place of marriage (hard to read). She died on 10 June 1846 at age 81 in Dublin, Wayne County, Indiana. She was buried in 1846 at South Lawn Cemetery in Dublin, Wayne, Indiana.
Note: There appear to be two Esther Heaths, one b. 1760 who married Nathaniel and another b. 1766 who married Thomas. Doublecheck! Also, was she only 13 when she married? Or is there a mix-up here? Esther Heath had person sources.
