Ephraim Leonard
M, #27157, b. 15 February 1749, d. 25 October 1814
Parents
Biography
Ephraim Leonard was born on 15 February 1749 in Raynham, Bristol County, Massachusetts.
1 He and
Hannah Wood were married before 1774 in Lansingburgh, New York. He died Near Rome, Oneida Co., NY on 25 October 1814 at age 65 in Delta, NY (now under Lake Delta.) He was buried in Delta, NY (now under Lake Delta.)
He was apparently the son of Edmund Leonard who, according to ECL, went to Mississippi and was never heard from again. That son was born 15 Feb 1749 in Raynham, and information about him is sketchy. Birthdate of 24 Feb 1750 is listed in Dougherty, Beekman Patent.
He was in Rensselaerwyk, Albany Co., NY, in 1790 (Dougherty).
Lois Badger wondered if Ephraim was the 17th child of Nathaniel Leonard and Priscilla Rogers (Lois Badger, The Leonard Dictionary).
He is sometimes said to have been a Revolutionary War soldier and participated in the Battle of Bunker Hill. But that appears to be another Ephraim Leonard, whose pension was approved in 1818 and lived in Sheffield, Berkshire Co., MA, age 62 in 1818 (b. 1756).
The genealogy of Ephraim's branch of the family was compiled from notes by Mrs. Helen Leonard Edwins of Sunfield, MI, a granddaughter of James and Betsey Rogers Leonard. She collected information about the family from interviews and family Bibles, with some Census data. It is also compiled from Lois Badger's The Leonard Dictionary, although Lois was brickwalled at Ephraim. It is not clear whether Helen and Lois ever compared notes.
Family tradition has it that Jeffery Leonard of New York City was a brother or son of Ephraim. Two Leonards, Francis and Jacob, were sponsors at the baptism of Jeffery's children, leading to speculation that they were also relatives. Jeffrey is also a brick wall.
There was also a Charles H. (or W.) Leonard in Albion. Was he another son of Ephraim? Ephraim Leonard had person sources.

Ebenezer Byram
M, #27158
Biography
Ebenezer Byram, Sr. moved from Bridgewater, MA, to Morris Co, NJ, in 1744. The area he moved to became Mendham, NJ, in 1749. Ebenezer and his family were much engated in what was called the "New Light" - the doctrine of George Whitfield, who held services in Ebenezer's barn, being denied the use of the Bridgewater church.
As the result of difficulties in his church, Ebenezer sold out in 1744 and moved with all his children and grandchildren to Roxiticus, NJ, in a new section of Morris County formed into Mendham twp in 1749. For several years Ebenezer was Major of Militia, a Judge of the County Court. Ebenezer built a large building called the Black Horse Tavern that served as his home, a tavern, inn, livery, and blacksmith shop. It served for many years as a center of activity for the settlement. It still stands as an eating establishment, though much changed. Ebenezer died in 1753. Roxiticus later became Ralston.
