He was born on a farm called Spicewood Thicket.
About 1832 the family moved to a farm in Unity twp., Columbiana Co., OH. In the 1850 Census, the family was listed as living there. Stephen and Silas were farmers, James was a blacksmith, and Abner was a carpenter. Stephen built a log house in 1840. It stood along Bye Road until 1994, when it was torn down. Stephen S. In 1839, George's family moved to Gallia County. Abner bought a 40 acre farm for $150, the sw 1/4 sw 1/4 section 22 in Huntington twp in the northwest part of that county. He sold it in 1842 and bough 39 acres two miles away. By 1850 Abner and other Leonard siblings had moved to northwest Ohio in Washington twp., Hancock County. Abner Leonard had person sources.
