Mary Hedge Sturgis were married on 1 October 1679. He died on 1 October 1708 at age ~84 in Newport, Newport County, Rhode Island.
He had a rather messy divorce from Elizabeth Baulstone. See "Betty Baulston and John Coggeshall: an Early Rhode Island Divorce," NEHGS, 149 (1995), p. 365. He disinherited his first three children as a result.
He inherited a farm in southern Newport from his father (must have been a reconciliation), owning 510 acres when he died. He was a petitioner for the new charter granted to Rhode Island by King Charles II in 1663 (after the Restoration) and served the Colony several times as Treasurer and General Assistant. In May 1684 he was appointed Major of Militia for the island. He was one of five RI delegates to the first council hel by Governor Andros of the shortlived Dominion of New England. The latter came to anend as a result of England's Glorious Revolution of 1688, when King James II was deposed. He served as Deputy Governor of RI in 1686, 1689, and 1690. John Coggeshall called "the Younger" to distinguish him from his half brother, John Coggeshall, "the Elder," of Halstead, co. Essex, gentleman, born 24 July and baptized at Halstead 29 July 1576, was buried at Halstead 4 August 1615. He married Anne Butter, who, as Anne Coggeshall of Castle Hedingham, co. Essex, widow, made her will [v. N.E. Gen. Reg., loc. cit.] 16 April 1645, which was proved 10 November 1648. She was a sister of John Butter of Thorington, co. Essex, yeoman, the testator of 1624/5, who in his will...names many of his relatives, and leaves 40 pounds to each of the three children of his sister, Anne Coggeshall. In 1640 Anne Coggeshall, widow, was defendant in a bill of complaint...brought in Chancery by Moses Greenewood of Hingham, co. Norfolk, England, who claimed the 40 pounds which had been left to her son, John Coggeshall, by his uncle, John Butter, said Greenewood having, as he alleged, sold merchandise to John Coggeshall after the latter settled in New England. "John Coggeshall was seised of sundry parcels of land in Halstead, which in 1605 he mortgaged to John Sydaye of Pebmarsh, co. Essex, gentleman, as is set forth in the bill of complaint brought in Chancery in 1620 by his son John...." In the lay subsidies for co. Essex, under date of 22 March 1608/9, he and his mother are taxed 5s. on goods valued at 3 pounds.

He held Munchensies in Halstead, situated near the Coggeshall bridge, on the left-hand side of the road leading from Halstead to Colchester. He is said to have been a merchant in London. At Halstead, he built an almshouse in 1563.
The Coggeshall family has been traced back 14 more generations to Thomas De Coggeshall, born abt. 1149, occupation: knight.He held Munchensies in Halstead, which is described as "a capital messuage, situated near Coggeshall bridge, on the left hand side of the road leading from Halsted to Colchester. It is so called from the noble family of Montechesy, ancient owners of Stansted-hall in Halstead. Walter Montchensy, a younger branch of that family, held this estate in the reign of King Edward III. John Coggeshall had it in the reigns of King Edward VI, Philip and Mary, and Elizabeth. He made gread additions to the house in 1563. The estate is otherwise called Collups, or Blue Bridge.
John is said to have been a merchant in London. He also built an almshouse at Halstead.
