Biography

Capt. George Watson was born before 8 November 1602 in Holme On Spaulding Moor, Yorkshire, England. He and Phebe Hicks were married in 1635 in Plymouth, Massachusetts. He died on 30 January 1689 in Plymouth, Plymouth County, Massachusetts. He was buried in February 1689 in Burial Hill, Plymouth, Plymouth, Massachusetts Bay.
He was a mariner and first settled in Penobscot, removed to Plymouth by 1634. He was the owner of Watson's Pond. He purchased a dwelling from Deacon Richard Masterson and became a freeman of Plymouth Colony in 1637. He was one of those with interest in the town's lands at Punkateest and shared lot there with John Shaw, Sr.

An article on George Watson and his descendants appears in the NEHGS, 1864, p. 363ff. He is also covered in The Great Migration Begins, Vol. 3, pp. 1944-1947. He was not the son of Robert Watson who married Elizabeth Pye -- there is no such person. A son attributed to him, William Watson, is not listed among his children. Capt. George Watson was a Mariner, Blacksmith. Capt. George Watson was a Mariner, Blacksmith. He had person sources.1 He was baptized on 8 November 1602 at Leeds - St. Peterr Church in Yorkshire, England. He had his estate probated on 2 February 1688/89.
