Son Henry: land where testator lived, bounded by John Throckmorton, Edward Taylor, deceased whortleberry bog. If son Henry has no issue, then to son Thomas. Son Samuel, David Kelly: also part of old mill, alias 5 acre bogg mill and lands. Son Thomas: salt meadow at Mateetcuck, Red Brook mill. If son Henry has no male issue, then is son Thomas. If wife does not accept dowry of 25 pounds, testator's daughter, Elizabeth, to be excluded from share of residue of estate. Executors: Brother Samuel, brother-in-law Thomas Morford, and sons Samuel and Thomas. His brother, Samuel, declined to serve in July 1739.

There's a Hunterdon Co. will dtd. 11 Sep 1727, proven 20 Dec 1727, mentioning wife, Ann, cousin Christopher, brothers Thomas and James. Will proved 9 Dec 1727 "46J, book 2, page 480, 1727." He had children: Samuel, Thomas, Nathaniel, Maurice (or Morris), Mary, and Anne, all under age in 1727. Ferry and 20 acres, home farm, farm in Somerset County now occupied by Jonathan Runion, land bought of Henry Farnsworth, do. of Jonathan Reading, farm now occupied by Nohnathan Reynolds, house and lot in Trenton adjoining the Court House bought of James Trent, part of Sybal's Plantation, bought of Thomas Wyatt with wife Syball and John Rogers with wife Martha, land in Amwell. Personal estate: two slaves, bonds due by Henry Vroom. Executors: brother Thomas, James Leonard, and Daniel Howell of Trenton, blacksmith. Witnesses: Edward FitzRandolph, Jno. Stockton, James White, Isaac Reeder, James Geary, Joseph Harden.

It's easy to confuse Samuel's son John b. 1670 with Henry's son John b. the same year. Bill Barton has mixed the facts regarding the two. The one who was the son of Samuel had a wife named Margaret and died in 1727; the one who was the son of Henry had a wife named Elizabeth Almy and died in 1712.

John was murdered by Wequalia, an Indian king, in his own yard. Wequalia was found guilty at a trial held 23 June 1727 in Perth Amboy and was hung on 30 June.

Father Nathaniel of Middletown's will dtd. 13 Dec 1763, proved 29 Dec 1763, mentions wife Deliverance, sons John, Nathaniel, Joseph, and Thomas (no Samuel). Executors were sons John, Nathaniel, and Joseph and "relation Andrew Bowne (son of John?)". Lois Badger, The Leonard Dictionary, mentions sons John, Nathaniel, Joseph, and Samuel, referencing Fanny Leonard Koster's charts.

There is a Nathaniel Leonard b. 10 Dec 1746 d. 15 Oct 1823 m. Esther Heath b. 7 Jan 1746. Another source has this Nathaniel b. in Trenton, NJ. According to DAR # 43153, Nathaniel served in the forage department of Sussex County under Deputy Quartermaster General Moore Furman. In 1778 he was a captain of militia at the battle of Monmouth. His widow was allowed a pension for two years' actual service. They supposedly had a dau. Elizabeth b. 17 Nov 1811 d. 5 Feb 1852 m. Joseph Waltz b. 1813 (unlikely, since Esther would have been 65 in 1811). Their other children were supposedly Zephaniah b. 1780, Mary, Thomas b. 3 January 1784, James, Nathaniel, Esther, Nancy, John, Lavinia, and Samuel. Mrs. Jennie Leonard Halliday DAR # 43153 listed her father and mother as Chauncey Leonard and Mary Anna Goold, grandparents Nathaniel Leonard, Jr., and Betsey Babcock, and great grandparents as Nathaniel Leonard and Esther Heath, m. 1779, Esther d. 1846.

There was a Nathaniel Leonard in First Moon, Beaver Co., PA, in the 1800 Census with wife and seven children, but no Thomas Leonard.

There was a Zephaniah b. 1780 NJ living in Henry, Henry Co., IN with wife Mary in the 1850 Census. Son? Zephaniah b. 1821 was living in the same county with wife Elizabeth.

A Thomas Leonard m. Alice Lawrence 30 Oct 1786 in Freehold and had a son William 1787-1873.

A Thomas Leonard b. abt. 1814 is listed in the Middletown NJ 1850 Census with wife Mary 37, Elizabeth Leonard (mother or aunt?) 57, children James 9 and Thomas 7, a Margaret Leonard 25, and a Cornelius Clark 16.
