He was a clerk at the Arabic Case Loan Association (illegible?), 144 Westminister St., Providence. His nearest relative was Mrs. William (illegible) at 77 Elton Street, Proidence. He was tall and slender. In the 1923 and 1927 Providence City Directories, he was a clerk living at 21 Court Street.

In the 1953 and 1935 Providence City Directories, he was living at 11 Union Street and was a fireman with the Providence Fire Department. Mrs. Annie Ridout was living at the same address. In the 1929 and 1933 Providence City Directories, he was living at the same address, except with Hubert Rideout, a butler. In the 1923 Providence City Directory and the 1925 State Census, he was living at 113 Sheldon Street in Providence, working for the Providence Fire Department. Their niece, Marion M. Waldron, was living with them. In the 1930 Census, they were living at 11 Union Street. Maria F. Waldron, mother-in-law, was living with them in the 1925 and 1930 Census. Edwin was a fireman, but also listed street car operator as an occupation. He apparently also worked for Gorham Mfg. Bessie was working as a stenographer in the transportation field. They apparently had no children. Edwin Ralph Simmons lived in Newport, Newport, Rhode Island, in 1890. He lived at 11 Union Ave in Providence, Providence, Rhode Island, in 1935.

In the 1907 Providence City Directory, he was a foreman living at 202 Power Street with C. Fred Cross, printer, and Stephen F. Hinckley, street car conductor, next door to Walter B. Leonard I, of the Providence Fire Department, and James Griffin, paper hanger. Stephen Hinckley was married to C. Fred Cross' sister. Walter B. Leonard I was the brother of C. Fred Cross' mother.
In the 1930 Census, he was the stepfather living at 293 Vermont Avenue, Providence, with Charles F., Annie M., and Sylvia M. Cross.
