Elisha W. Leonard was born about 1805 in Pennsylvania. He and Rachel Martin were married on 26 March 1831 in Monroe County, Indiana.

In the 1840 Census, they were living in Monroe Co., IN, family of 4 (2 children). Elisha was between 40 and 50. According to the 1900 Census, his son's father was born in PA.

In William Martin's will, Elisha was named guardian of his children (probate records, Munroe Co., IN, 22 Feb 1849). Does this indicate Rachel died before her father?

Biography

George Washington Leonard was born on 20 September 1838 in Monroe County, Indiana. He and Susan Amelia Burke were married about 1865 in Logan County, Illinois. He died on 5 September 1908 at age 69 in Dallas County, Iowa.

He was a drayman. In the 1870 Census, they were living in Van Meter, Dallas Co., IA. In the 1880 Census, they were living in DeSoto, Dallas Co., back in Van Meter in 1900 Census. Note that there were two George W. Leonards living in Dallas Co., IA that year. According to the 1900 Census, they had had 12 children, of which 8 were still alive in 1900. In the 1910 Census, they had had 10 children, of which 8 were still alive in 1910. That seems to be the correct number.
