William Eddy was born on 26 July 1751 in Providence, Rhode Island. He and
Huldah Ide were married on 15 November 1771 in Rehoboth, Bristol County, Massachusetts. He and
Bethiah Hayes were married on 12 May 1789. He died on 4 September 1835 at age 84 in Providence, Rhode Island. He was buried in PV001 North Burial Ground, Providence.
He was a shipwright and one of the group of Eddys engaged in shipbuilding at Cowpen Point at the foot of Ship Street and on Eddy Lane, which later became Eddy Street. He owned a house on the north side of Eddy Street, wood, 27x26, 2 stories high.
He was a soldier in the Revolutionary War and was a pensioner. He served as a private in Capt. Smith's Company, Col. Ridley's Mass. Cit in May 1775. On July 1776 he enlisted and served 2 mos. as private in Crown Point and Lake Champlain expedition in Capt. Barnard Eddy's R.I. Mil. Co. He also served as a private in Capt. James Hills' company, Col. Williams Regiment, service from Sept. 29, 1777 to October 30, 1777, at Tiverton, R.I. (battle of Rhode Island?) as a boatman. He was placed on the pension roll in 1832 for service as a private. William Eddy was a Ships Carpenter. Resided: Providence, R.I. He was born on 26 July 1751.

Capt. Benjamin Eddy

Capt. Benjamin Eddy was born on 5 March 1710 in Swansea, Bristol County, Massachusetts. He and
Elizabeth Cooper were married in Warwick? He died about 1761 at age ~51 in Providence, Rhode Island.
Benjamin Eddy learned the trade of a ship carpenter and started his business in Warwick, R.I. He was a resident of Warwick in 1734, purchased property in East Greenwich in 1735, and was made a freeman of East Greenwich the same year. He bought property in Warwick in 1737 and sold it in 1744. He established a business on the west side of the Providence River about where Ship Street and Eddy Street now come together. He was made a freeman of Providence in 1749. His son-in-law Barnard Eddy and Esek Eddy joined him in the shipbuilding business. This establishment of shipbuilders was the largest in Providence at the time.
He was an officer in the militia from 1748 to 1759. He served in Col. Hopkins Regiment in 1756 and as first lieutenant in Capt. Jencke's Company in 1758 and as Captain of the 9th Company in 1759.
He died intestate, and his widow refused to accept the administration of his estate, so his son-in-law Barnard Eddy did so. The estate was insolvent.

An Elizabeth Cooper was b. Rehoboth April 6, 1711 (MA VR). She may have been the daughter of either Thomas or Nathaniel Cooper, sons of Deacon Thomas Cooper, an early settler of Rehoboth.
Joshua Eddy and his son Benjamin appear to have been living in Swansea/Rehoboth until after 1734.
