Biography

Daniel Leonard was born on 3 December 1753 in Preston, New London County, Connecticut. He and Mary Starkweather were married on 6 October 1774 in Preston, New London County, Connecticut.1 He died in 1804 at age ~51.
He was a soldier in the Revolutionary War, a sergeant in Capt. Isaac Marsh's Company, Col. Sears' regiment. (DAR)

Soon after his marriage, he bought a farm in Norwich, MA, in a part of the town called Goff's Hill, now part of the town of Huntington, where he resided until his death. Daniel Leonard had person sources.2

Biography

Asa Leonard was born on 22 April 1771 in Worthington, Hampshire County, Massachusetts.1 He and Esther Brown were married in 1797 in Preston, New London, Connecticut. He died on 29 January 1816 at age 44 in Pierpont, Ashtabula County, Ohio.
Asa came to Ohio in 1811 to look for land and found it in Pierpont (Ashtabula Co.) near some of his neighbors from Massachisetts. The family did not come immediately to Ohio, but lived in Sangerfield, NY, till the close of the War of 1812. They lived in a log house called the hotel until their own house was built. Asa lived only two years after his arrival in Ohio. The family continued to live in Pierpont. Asa Leonard had person sources.2

He died on 23 April 1848 at age 67 in Sangerfield, Oneida County, New York. He was buried at Terrytown Cemetery in Sangerfield, Oneida County, New York.1
He removed to Sangerfield, NY in 1809 and purchased a farm, engaging in breeding and raising fine stock. He was a good citizen, hospitable, kind-hearted, and the poor were frequent recipients of his liberality. Stephen Leonard had person sources.2

Biography

Anna Bush was born on 17 August 1782 in Worthington, Hampshire County, Massachusetts. Stephen Leonard and she were married in 1800 in Enfield, Hartford, Connecticut. She died on 22 August 1859 at age 77 in Saint Louis, Missouri.
The southwest corner of the town was known as Terryville early on. The spring election of 1800 saw the opening of Moses Bush's log tavern.

Pomeroy Jones wrote a History of the town of Sangerfield in 1851. The Loomis gang lived in and terrorized Sangerfield for years. "In 1810 Loomis, his brother Willard, his sister's husband Prentice, and two pals Howard and Reynolds, were arrested and charged with passing counterfeit money. All but Loomis were indicted and landed in state prison." (Norman R. Cowen, "Loomis Family History".)
