When he was sixteen he removed to Meadville, PA, with his father's family. He learned the carpenter's trade in 1847 he went to Ohio where he married and located in Ashtabula County. He has become very prosperous; has a dairy farm at Padanaram where he attends to all his own business. He has given each of his sons a farm and they are all farmers in good circumstances.
In the 1850 Census, a Lewis Leonard, 38, was living with his wife, Lucy Ann, 24, daughter Ellen M.,1, and Isabella Leonard, 61,in Wayne, Crawford Co., PA. Lewis Leonard had person sources.

George Leonard was born on 30 March 1839 in Nichols, Tioga County, New York. He and
Mary Prothero were married about 1858 in New York. He died on 30 August 1882 at age 43 in Nichols, Tioga County, New York.
He learned the trade of stone mason. He was engaged for some years in lumbering and was pilot of lunber rafts on the Susquehanna River. He enlisted 11 Aug 1862 in Company G, 109 Regt., New York Volunteer Infantry. He was ill with typoid fever and he was severely wounded in front of Fort Hell 2 Apr 1865.
Mr. Leonard enlisted on August 11, 1862, in Co. I., 109th New York Vols., and was in all of the numerous and bloody engagements in which his regiment took part during his term of service (among them being the battle. of the Wilderness, Fairfax C. H., and North Anna river) except when he was ill with typhoid fever from August, 1864, to March, 1865. Mr. Leonard was severely wounded in front of Fort Hell on April 2, 1865, in both an arm and a leg by a bursting shell. Taken from the field to the hospital at Alexandria, Va., he was there mustered out of service on June 5, 1865. George Leonard had person sources.
