Biography

Jonathan Leonard was born on 17 April 1738 in Norton, Bristol County, Massachusetts.1 He and Eleanor Campbell were married on 17 February 1763 in Norton, Bristol County, Massachusetts.2 He and Rebecca Smith were married on 13 July 1769 in Rehoboth, Bristol County, Massachusetts. He died on 12 September 1807 at age 69 in Norton, Bristol County, Massachusetts.3
He was an Assistant Surgeon in the Revolutionary War (DAR). Jonathan is a descendant of John Alden through his mother, Mary Wild.

There appears to be the Jonathan Leonard of Norton who married Rebecca Smith of Rehoboth July 13, 1769, in Rehoboth (Rehoboth VR's on NEHGS web site). Lois Badger points out an illogic of her marrying this Jonathan. The Jonathan who married Rebecca Smith had a brother, Seth. Rebecca died 30 Apr 1829 in 84th year (b. 1745).

However, this Jonathan's will mentions wife Rebecca, son Thomas, George, Cromwell, daughters Sarah Smith (deceased), Eleanor Smith, and Polly Babbitt. Jonathan Leonard had person sources.4,5
