Biography

Jacob Leonard was born on 19 November 1744 in Stoughton, Norfolk County, Massachusetts. He and Mary ("Molly") Billings were married on 17 April 1766 in Sharon, Norfolk County, Massachusetts. He died on 28 June 1799 at age 54 in Foxborough, Norfolk County, Massachusetts.

He went to Foxboro in 1775. He was an ironworker. He had finery or forge at the end of the dam serving Stoughtenham Furnace.

Did they have a daughter, Olive? According to the ECL-GML manuscript, they did, but the Olive they ascribe to this couple was the daughter of James Leonard and Eunice Smith and married Ebenezer Randall (verified by Taunton Death Records, 5 May 1865, which has Olive's maiden and married names and her parents). Jacob Leonard had person sources.^1,2

Jacob Leonard, Jr., was born on 1 February 1769 in Stoughton (Canton), Massachusetts. He and Militiah ("Millie") Blake were married on 2 May 1793 in Foxborough, Norfolk County, Massachusetts. He died on 9 June 1850 at age 81.

Check children out carefully. Some of the children, like Shepard and Mehitable, were shown as those of his father in the information I received earlier. These children are per New England Families, Genealogical and Memorial, Vol. 3, pp. 1341-42.

Jacob and Milla were living with Ellis at the time of the 1850 Census. Jacob was a blacksmith, as was Ellis. Jacob Leonard, Jr., had person sources.¹

Biography

Shepard Leonard was born on 3 April 1791 in Foxborough, Norfolk County, Massachusetts. He and Mary Eastman were married on 28 June 1808 in Francetown, Hillsborough County, New Hampshire. He died on 23 July 1867 at age 76 in Chester, Vermont.

They resided in Andover, VT. "He came to Andover in an ox cart in 1808, cleared a farm there, and erected a blacksmith shop. His last years were spent with his son at Chester, and he died there." New England Families, Historical and Genealogical, Vol. 3, p. 1342. His name is sometimes spelled Shepherd.

In the 1850 Census, he and his family were living next door to Horace Leonard, wife Sarah, and their 3 children as well as Orison Leonard, 22, also a farmer. Shepard Leonard had person sources.¹
