Capt. Phineas Leonard was born about 1774 in Canton, Norfolk County, Massachusetts. He and
Mary Bassett were married on 25 March 1804 in Westminster, Worcester County, Massachusetts. He and
Eunice Gibbs were married on 21 September 1812 in Westminister, Massachusetts.
1 He died on 4 September 1821 at age ~47 in Westminister, Massachusetts.
He went to Westminster in the late 1700's and operated a forge there near Wachusettville with his brother Enoch. He sold the forge in 1812 and thereafter operated a saw mill until his death. Apparently he died insolvent, as his children became public charges.
In the 1810 census, he was living in Westminster, had a household of 8, including 4 under ten, 2 10 to 16, and 2 over 25.
Without dates of birth or other source information, it's hard to know to which wife the children belong. Capt. Phineas Leonard had person sources.

Some of the descendants of Seth Leonard and Ruth Hoar were also named Jesse and lived in Sutton, MA. This is mentioned not only because of possible confusion, but also because Seth may be a descendant of Uriah of this branch rather than William Leonard and Sarah Bolton.
There was a Jesse Leonard in Boston in the 1830 Census with a family of 5, including a male 30-39.
ECL concludes this listing with "The above is given in the Sutton VR's, but it is very uncertain who the Jesse mentioned there is." I don't see any evidence that links this Jesse to Sutton, so have not included it here. See ECL, Sixth Generation, p. 148 (#827).
