In the 1850 Census, the family was living in Brown twp., Delaware Co., OH. Abijah was a farmer. The children were all born in Ohio.
When the railroad went through and missed the town of Kilbourne by 3 miles, the railroad made a station with a small town laid out around it. Abijah built a warehouse there, and the town of Leonardsburg in Delaware County, OH, was named for him.

Isaac Leonard

Isaac Leonard was born on 27 July 1839 in East Palestine, Ohio. He died on 28 January 1863 at age 23 in Jackson, Mississippi. Isaac W. Leonard enlisted as a 22 year old Corporal in Company H, 49th Ohio Volunteer Infantry on August 15, 1861, mustering into service August 30, 1861. He took part in the battles of Shiloh and Corinth before he was wounded and captured December 31, 1862 at the battle of Stones' River. He died of his wounds while still a prisoner of war January 28, 1863 at Jackson, Mississippi and is buried there.
Letter: Hancock Jeffersonian: November 1, 1861
In the Civil War, he was a soldier in Company H, 49th Ohio Volunteer Infantry. He died in January 1863 in a Confederate prison in Mississippi of neglect of a shoulder wound received at Battle of Stones River. His diary is at the Ohio Historical Society in Columbus, OH.

Elizabeth is not mentioned among his children in Vinton's work. The first four children are mentioned in Springfield VR's to 1850, CD, by Clifford L. Stott. Delia is mentioned twice (2 of same name?) in Vinton's work.
At the age of 15, he went from home to learn the trade of a joiner, but before his apprenticeship had expired, he left his master and went to Pittsfield, where he remained about 2 years. At 21, he to Springfield to work at his trade in the United States Armory and continued there, except for an interval of 2 years, till the close of his life. His family resided at Springfield util 1820. He treated his wife with great severity.
Vinton: "He killed his wife with an axe, and cut his own throat, Dec. 14, 1825." More detail about this murder is to be found in a sermon by William B. Sprague, Pastor of the First Church in West Springfield, entitled "The Wicked Is Snared in the Work of His Own Hands." Samuel Leonard had person sources.
