Major Hiram Leonard was born on 9 December 1809. He and Elizabeth Patterson were married on 17 January 1832 in Truro, Ohio. He died on 12 October 1887 at age 77 in Iowa City, Iowa. He was buried in Des Moines County, Iowa.
He moved to Iowa in 1844. He was a major in the Civil War. He recruited Co. K, 14th Iowa Volunteer Infantry. He fought at the battle of Fort Donaldson under Gen. Grant in 1862.

He died while living with his son, Nathan.

Aaron Lewis Leonard was born on 3 July 1812 in Washington County, Pennsylvania. He and Caroline R. Chamberlain were married on 13 January 1842 in Louisa County, Iowa. He died on 15 July 1900 at age 88 in Franklin, Gloucester County, New Jersey.
He moved to Iowa in 1842. He was a Congregational Church minister. He also lived in Danville, Des Moines Co., IA (1860 Census) and Franklin, Gloucester Co., NJ. By the 1870 Census, the family had moved to Franklin, Gloucester Co., NJ. All but Louisa were still living with the family.

Biography

David S. Leonard was born on 12 March 1816 in Washington County, Pennsylvania. He and Mary S. Dustin were married on 2 March 1841 in Franklin County, Ohio. He died on 12 February 1884 at age 67 in Burlington, Des Moines County, Iowa. He was buried at Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington, Des Moines County, Iowa.
The couple began domestic life in Franklin County, OH, remaining there until the spring of 1842. They then moved to section 25, Flint River township, Des Moines Co., IA. He was elected a Director of the Burlington and Northwestern Railroad, being chosen Vice President of the company in 1878. His primary business was orchards and nursery.

He was killed by a horse and buggy runaway 12 February 1884, as reported by nephew Nathan Leonard, 1908.

His 200 acre farm with all the old trees was bought in 1905 and became the famous Deems first horseless farm (International Harvester).

Elizabeth Leonard, b. abt. 1787, was living with them in Flint River township, Des Moines Co., IA in the 1860 Census. Isaac is listed as a Baptist clergyman. In the 1870 Census Isaac, listed as a clergyman, was living next to his brother Aaron in Franklin, Gloucester Co., NJ, along with his wife Caroline. Was James their son or Aaron's?

Howard Dustin Leonard was born on 14 January 1842 in Franklin County, Ohio. He died on 18 March 1862 at age 20 at Hospital in Mound City, Illinois.
He was a Civil War soldier, dying March 18, 1862 at a US Army Hospital in Cairo, IL, of a disease caused by exposure during the battle of For Donaldson, Tennessee. He served in Company K, 14 Iowa Infantry.
