Biography

Daniel Leonard was born before 3 January 1803 at Saint Martin's in Birmingham, Warwickshire, England.1 He and Elizabeth were married. He died on 15 January 1899. He died, leaving a fortune of 111,996 pounds sterling.
A Daniel Leonard had a shop or residence at 90 Aston Street in Birmingham in 1852. Other Leonards listed in the Birmingham directory in gun manufacturing include Campbell Leonard at Great Hampton Row, Samuel, gun finisher, at 94 New John Street, Thomas, a gun finisher, at no. 31 Court, Lancaster St., Thomas, gun finisher at 18 1/2 Bath Street.

This Daniel, a gun maker, was supposedly quite wealthy (left nearly 300,000 pounds at his death). He supposedly never married and lived with a brother, either Samuel or Benjamin, who was a jeweller and also never married, but it seems he did marry.

He lived in Edgbastion and also Bishop Ryder ecc. dist., St. Mary's, Birmingham with wife, Elizabeth, 33, and the Lawtons. Charles Lawton, 16, was also a gun maker (apprentice) listed as a son (of whom?) in the 1851 Census, along with Joseph Lawson, 14, and Frederick Lawson, 12, all
three born in Manchester. Margaret Townsend, 26, and Elizabeth Cook, 55, also lived in the household in 1851.

In the 1861 Census, he and his family were living at 90 Aston Street, Birmingham. Daniel Leonard had person sources.2

SonJohn Leonard (b. about 1770)

Biography

John Leonard was born on 12 January 1730 in Dudley, Worcester, England. He died in 1811 at age ~81 in North Warwickshire, England. He was a Quaker.
Could he be the John Leonard b. 12 Jan 1730 in Warwick, son of John and Henretta? Or was there another John Leonard who married a Frances who were the parents of William?

Two possible Frances marriages: Frances Nutting at Circencester 1720 or Frances Brown, Brignorth, Shropshire, 1740. Brignorth is about 9 miles from Wolverley. Neither date fits well with John's birth and marriage.

Likely parents of this John are John Leonard, b. abt. 1700 in Warwickshire and Henrietta Smith, who were married 26 Nov 1723 in Dudley, Staffordshire. This is a Quaker (nonconformist) line for several generations.

John, a Quaker, was born about 1731 and died in Knowle a few miles SE of Birmingham 11 Feb 1811 at the age of 80.

This is the family tree of the gun maker Leonards in Aston/Birmingham.
