Abel Leonard was born on 4 March 1781 in Springfield, Hampden County, Massachusetts. He and
Abiah Leonard were married in 1804 in Springfield, Hampden County, Massachusetts. He died in 1852 at age ~71 in Andover or Richmond Center, Ashtabula County, Ohio.

Letter from Abel in Springfield, Bradford Co., PA, dated Burlington, 7 Mar 1804, to his brother in Springfield, MA:
"Honored Brother:
Sir, I embrace this opportunity with pleasure and respect to inform you that we are all well, and in a degree happy and well pleased with the country and its ihabitants. As to the country, it needs no praise for it is sufficient to praise itself. As to hunting, it exceeds any part of the United States for elk, panter, bear, wolves, deer, beaver, sable, etc., therefore, it is pleasing to me to walk into the wilderness and take a view of nature and to see there the curiosities of the Almight God, without any artificial marks excepting what we have done. We are now making preparations for building a house which we have been almost destitute of for the time we have been here, but by the assistance of God we have almost accomplished a house and the first of the kind in the town where we belong, it being built of boards, mails and glass, which articles are seldom seen in this country, and expect to move in next month.
I have made it my home at Mr. E. Leonard's this winter past, where I have been treated with respect by the whole family and more especially by the girl that you recommended to be about the right length for a chin hold."
The letter continues:
"To my dear and absent Mother whom I respect.
Dear Mother - since it is my fortune to be absent from you and not able to enjoy yur company or advice, I think it may duty to improve the pen for relief which I can do with freedom and pleasure, for the want of a Mother, is what I have never experienced till now, and now I can see what I enjoyed with present with you, that is the greatest trouble that I am afflicted with at present and that I consider the greatest in life; however, I am in hopes to see you again provided we shall both live any lengthof time, but as life is uncertain perhapsthis may be my last. Give my compliments to Deborah and tell her that I want to hear from her more than my pen is able to express, for I consider her in a dangerous situation though I said nothing, but I thought when I parted with her, never to see her again, but I am in hopes to hear something different from what I have written. I am well.

Josiah Leonard
M, #24137, b. 27 March 1750, d. 9 November 1817
Parents
Biography
Josiah Leonard was born on 27 March 1750 in Springfield, Hampden County, Massachusetts. He and
Elizabeth Hilliard were married on 6 August 1772 in Springfield, Hampden County, Massachusetts. He died on 9 November 1817 at age 67 in Kingsborough (Johnston), Fulton County, New York. He was buried in Old Colonial Cemetery, Kingsborough (now Johnston), Fulton County, New York.
He was baptized 6 May 1750 in West Springfield. He and his wife Elizabeth were taken in to the Fifth Church of Christ in Springfield 11 Dec 1774.
Constance Leonard's genealogy of the Leonard family, composed during her lifetime (1785-1855), has this Josiah marrying Elizabeth Hilliard 1 May 1772, as does Thomas B. Warren's Springfield Families.
Their first children were born in Springfield. Sometime after the Revolutionary War, they removed away. In 1793 they settled in Kingsborough, NY, then a newly settled region, where they passed their remaining days. It was later known as Johnstown, NY, and Gloversville, NY.
He served in 1780 as a private in Capt. Jacob Pool's company, Col. Jacob's Massachusetts regiment. DAR Patriot Index. He was also a police constable in Becket, MA.
Will of Josiah Leonard of Johnstown, will dated 30 April 1816, probated 1-13-1818. Mentions wife Elizabeth; daughters Betsy, Miriam and Luna; sons Rufus, Reuben, Josiah, Daniel, Abner, and Harvey. Executors: sons Josiah, Daniel, and Abner.
He was in his 68th year when he died.
"History of Gloversville, NY" by Horace Sprague has further information about Josiah, Daniel, and Abner, according to Lois Badger, "The Leonard Dictionary." She has Josiah born in 1716-18 and married to Elizabeth Harris. Sprague's book: "The Leonards constitute one of the most numerous and most respectable family connections of the first inhabitants of Kingsboro. The present families are descendants of some of the following six brothers: Rufus, Reuben, Josiah, Daniel, Abner, and Harvey." Josiah Leonard had person sources.

Elizabeth Hilliard
F, #24138, b. 13 October 1748, d. 1 March 1820
Biography
Elizabeth Hilliard was born on 13 October 1748.
Josiah Leonard and she were married on 6 August 1772 in Springfield, Hampden County, Massachusetts. She died on 1 March 1820 at age 71 in Kingsborough, New York. She was buried in Old Colonial Cemetery, Kingsborough (now Johnston), Fulton County, New York.
There was another Josiah Leonard to whom this Elizabeth Hilliard (Hillard) is frequently linked in marriage. The most reliable source of info regarding this Elizabeth comes from Donald Lines Jacobus and Edgar Frank Waterman, Hale, House & Related Lines, 1952, and lists the intentions published for Josiah Leonard of Springfield and Elizabeth Hilliard as 1 May 1772. The NEHGS CD of Springfield VR's to 1850 also lists the same intentions to marry.
The two lines of Hilliards from which Elizabeth is likely to be a daughter are from the South Hadley area (Timothy Hilliard and Mehitable lnu, John Hilliard and Mary Crowfoot, etc.) and Stonington, CT (David Hilliard et. al.). There seem to have been no other Hilliard families in CT or MA at that time. Some other family trees (Luke Hitchcock, for example) have Elizabeth born in Raynham, MA, which adds to the confusion.
She was in her 72nd year when she died.

Elijah Coleman was born on 17 November 1714 in Hartford, Hartford County, Connecticut. He and
Mary Smith were married in 1744. He and
Eleanor Day were married on 23 December 1762 in West Springfield, Hampden County, Massachusetts.
It would appear that Elijah Coleman first married Mary Smith in 1744. They had a son, Elijah Coleman, Jr., born in 1745. No death date is available for Mary, but it appears to have been before 20 Jun 1759 when Jonathan Leonard died, leaving the widow, Eleanor Day. Elijah then married the widow, Eleanor. This hypothesis needs to be checked further. Elijah was acquainted with the family from before 1748, when he witnessed Jonathan's father's will.
