Biography

Jonathan Leonard was born on 20 August 1760 in Bridgewater, Plymouth County Massachusetts. He and Phebe Williams were married on 29 October 1782 in Middleborough, Plymouth County, Massachusetts.^1,2 He died on 5 May 1840 at age 79 in Middleborough, Plymouth County, Massachusetts.¹ He was buried in North Middleboro Cemetery, Middleboro, Massachusetts.³

He was of the Solomon Leonard line. Joseph was born and brought up in the old Content Crocker house in Bridgewater, then owned and lived at the Darius Dunbar place in Great Woods, which he sold to his brother, Dan Leonard; then owned the farm and lived at the house where Elbridge G. Shaw later lived. His wife's brother, Thomas Dean, owned the farm, built the house, and lived there until his son Thomas was killed (one account says by falling from a load of hay, and another by the fall of a tree). Jonathan Leonard had person sources.⁴
