But he had no children and may never have married. Thomas' will describes him as of "Eveuns Green in the parish of Sundrish, Kent. He appointed his brother-in-law, Sir Francis Barnham, as his executor and left the residue of his property to his godson, Thomas Lennard, who was his great nephew, being the second son of Richard, Lord Dacre.

There is another Thomas Leonard listed in the records of Staffordshire who also married a White. This Thomas was listed as “of the forge, fyner” in that record. A fyner was one who is charge of the hearth where cast iron was made malleable.

Since this profile was created there has been a controversy over the parents of Thomas and whether James and Henry Leonard were sons of the Dacre Thomas Lennard.. As far back as the 1800's there have been doubts to their Dacre or Fiennes connection for James and Henry Leonard. The Thomas Lennard who was the son of Sampson Lennard and Margaret Fiennes, Baroness Dacre was christened May 23, 1577 in Sevenoaks, Kent, and was buried November 16, 1638. His will appointed his brother-in-law, Sir Francis Barnham, his executor, and left the residue of his property to his godson, Thomas Lennard, who was his grandnephew, being the second son of Richard Lord Dacre. There is no record of his having children.
