In the 1930 Census, a stepdaughter, Betty J. Ecklin, 8, born in IA, was living with the family. Wallace was a farmer.

At the time of his WWI draft registration, he was a mechanical draftsman working at Midvale Steel in Philadelphia. He was married and had two children. At the time of his WWII draft registration, he was living at 550 Harlan Ave., Ferndale - Johnston, Cambria Co., PA. He was working at the wheel works in Johnston, a part of Bethlehem Steel.

Biography

James Leonard was born in 1811 in Butternuts, Otego County, New York. His father was named James. There were 12 in the household in 1820 in Butternuts. He and Ruth Caroline Clark were married about 1830 in New York. He died in 1893 at age ~82 in Preston, Wayne County, Pennsylvania.
There is a family story about a boy of ten, a son of a lord, who was sent to the store, but kidnapped by sailors on the way and put to work on a ship. Some 8 to 10 years later, he escaped on the Hudson River and made his way to Thompson or Poyntelle, PA. He is buried in the Poyntelle Cemetery. He was the father or grandfather of James.

In the Old Churchyard Cemetery in Butternets are buried a Samuel Leonard 1742-1827 (military marker), James Leonard 1783-5 Dec 1863, died and buried in Hornby,, Steuben Co., Deborah Kendrick b. 1787, 2nd wife of James Leonard, Elizabeth Leonard 1779-1832, 1st wife of James Leonard. Deborah's first husband was James Strongitharm. There are also several plots with no stones or markers.

James was a Civil War veteran, having served in Co. B, 28th PA Regiment.

Was he the son of Samuel Leonard, b. 1742, London, England, m. (1) Dorothy West, 26 Nov 1761, d. about 1791, m. (2) Elizabeth Aikin, b. 1776, d. 1832, m. abt. 1794, lots of children?

They had seven children. He died on 26 May 1928 at age 83 in Johnson City, Broome County, New York. He was buried in Riverside Cemetery, Windsor, Broome County, New York.
John and Lucy were living in Preston, PA, in 1880. John and Alice were living in Preston in 1900, in Thompson, PA, in 1910, and in Windsor, NY, in 1920, according to the censuses. John was a farmer.
