Hiram Henry Leonard was born on 15 November 1841 in New York. He and Anna M. were married. He died on 17 November 1895 at age 54 in Wichita, Sedgewick County, Kansas.

Hiram Leonard was born on 17 February 1810 in Delaware County, Ohio. He and Sarah Randall were married about 1840 in Ogle County, Iowa. He died on 14 February 1888 at age 77 in Rochelle, Flagg Township, Ogle, Illinois.

He lived in Ohio and Illinois. He stated in his later years that his father was born in PA. He came to Ogle County in February 1835 and took a claim of "wild land" in what is now Washington Grove. He lived there a few years and then moved to Flagg Township, where he owned 520 acres of land.

A son or grandson looked into his ancestry and concluded that Hiram's father was John Leonard from Ogle Co., IL (?).

In 1850, Hiram was living with his family in Flagg, Ogle Co., IL. He had a farm worth $5,000, quite a sum in those days. A Sarah Leonard, age 64, was living with the family, probably Hiram's mother. She was born in PA.

In the 1860 Census, Hiram had added a son, George. The family was still living in Rochelle (P.O), Flagg twp., Ogle Co., IL.

In the 1870 Census, Hiram was living in Rochelle with children Edward, 22, Sarah, 19, George, 15, and Allen, 8. Next on the Census roll was Ransome, 24, wife Josephine, 20, daughter Mary, 1, and brother(?) John. And next to them was Clarissa Leonard, 33, b. OH, and her children all b. in IA: Louella 8, Amanda 7, Cordelia 6, Milo 4, and Edith 3. Clarissa was probably the wife of a Leonard, but none of Hiram's sons seems to fit. Hiram's wife apparently had died, as had his mother.

In the 1880 Census, Hiram was living in Rochelle with sons Edward, George, and Allen (or Albin?).

He also owned 120 acres in Cherokee County, IA.
