Sarah Francis Jones was born on 12 September 1848 in Rutland, Tioga County, Pennsylvania.¹ John H. Benson and she were married on 31 December 1868.¹ She died on 4 February 1930 at age 81 in Redmond, Western Australia.¹

Julia M. Beach was born on 8 March 1844 in New York.¹ She died on 2 April 1907 at age 63 in Seattle, Washington.¹

Edward N. Jones was born on 16 March 1808 in Pompton Plains, Passaic County, New Jersey.¹ He and Emeline Lines were married on 26 November 1835.¹ He died on 16 April 1900 at age 92 in Covington, Tioga County, Pennsylvania.¹

History of the Jones Family migration to the Pacific Northwest

Edward N. Jones and Emeline Lines had four children, unknown, William Edgar, James Alonzo and Sarah Francis. The first three were born in New Jersey and Sarah Francis was born in New York on 12 Sep 1848. Unknown must have died at birth and William Edgar died in 1865 in the Army of the Potomac.

E.N. Jones moved his family to Rutland, Tioga, Pennsylvania about 1849 or early 1850. He and his family show up on the 23 Oct 1850 census at Rutland, Tioga, Pennsylvania. His Real Estate value of his farm is listed as $800.00. They also show up on the 1860 census at Rutland with the Farm value of $2,000.00. James Alonzo married Julia M. Beach on 31 Dec 1864. Emeline died in April of 1866. Sarah Francis married John Benson 31 Dec 1868.

On the 1880 census at Blossburg, Tioga, Pennsylvania James Alonzo was a Laborer. On the 1870 census at Rutland, Tioga, Pennsylvania John Benson is listed as a Farmer with Real Estate value of $8,000.00. On the 1880 census at Rutland, Tioga, Pennsylvania

Sarah Francis and John Benson did not have any children. James Alonzo and Julia Beach had six children, Jennie, Olive, Maurice, Fred, Edward, and Ella. Ella was adopted.

Fred must have died at birth or at an early age. Maurice (Morris) and Ella married and stayed in Pennsylvania or New York. Maurice married Rachel Bolt on 7 Dec 1896. He was a Mason and lived in Tioga, Pennsylvania on the 1900 census. On the 1910 and 1920 census he was a Mason and lived in Elmira, New York. On the 1930 census he lived at Mt. Zoar Hill, New York and was a Farmer. Ella married John Sam Frost on 9 Apr 1901. She and John lived in Covington, Tioga, Pennsylvania on the 1910, 1920 and 1930 census. His occupation was a Farmer.

Jennie Married Isaac Grffiths on 1 Jan 1883. After his death she married Elmer Gilbert on 20 Jul 1884. They moved to Kirkland, Washington in 1899. They are on the 1900, 1910 and 1920 census at Kirkland, Washington. They were located in Redmond, Washington on the 1930 census.

Olive married Clarence Slade on 21 Dec 1887. They moved to Indiana sometime after June of 1898 and before 1900. Their daughter Julia M. Slade was born in June of 1898 in Pennsylvania. They appeared on the 19 Jan 1900 census at Clinton, LaPorte, Indiana. They moved to Seattle, Washington sometime before July 1906. Their fifth child, Clarence E. Slade Jr., was born 28 Jul 1906 in Seattle, Washington. They were living at Seattle, Washington on the 1910 census.

Edward was living with his parents, James Alonzo Jones and Julia (Beach) Jones on the 1900 census. Edward N. Jones married Charlotte June Palmer on 20 Nov 1901 at Troy, Pennsylvania. When Lewis, their first child, was born on 13 Jul 1903 Edward and Charlotte were living in Sullivan, Pennsylvania. When Olive, their second child, was born on 13 May 1905 Edward and Charlotte were living in Elmira, New York. James Alonzo died in February 1905 at Bingham, New York. Bingham, New York is only 2 miles from Elmira, New York. It is possible that both James Alonzo and Edward moved their families to the Elmira area before 1905.

Edward Jones and Charlotte were living in Seattle, Washington when Edward N. Jones Jr. was born 15 Sep 1907. Julia M. (Beach) Jones died in Seattle on 2 Apr 1907. It is possible that Edward, his family and his mother, Julia M. (Beach) Jones moved to the Seattle area at the same time, about 1905 to1907.

Sarah (Jones) Benson moved to the Seattle area and lived with her niece, Jennie (Jones) Gilbert, about 1927 after her husband, John Benson died in Pennsylvania on 29 May 1925. Sarah died in Seattle on 2 Feb 1930.

Edward and Charlotte had nine children, Lewis, Olive, Edward, Mildred, Charlotte, Julia, Thomas, Milton and Maxine. The youngest, Maxine, was born in Renton, Washington on 15 Jan 1923. According to school records of Mildred Jones, Edward and Charlotte Jones moved to Portland, Multnomah, Oregon about 1926. They appear on the 2 Apr 1930 census at Portland. Olive (Ollie) Jones married Carl Pollack on 28 Jun 1924. Their second child, Mildred was born in Washington 5 Apr 1928. Ollie and Carl Pollack moved to Portland, Multnomah, Oregon before the 2 Apr 1930 census.
