Leonards. She married six times-five husbands-we've got these amazing
photos of her and one of her husbands in Long Beach back in 1915 when
she was living on the high side-"flying" in a Wright Bros airplane on a
Hollywood movie set, posing in front of their incredible pink stone
Victorian house (the house is still there; I saw it when my father lived
in Long Beach, but had no idea Maudie had been there. Of course, she
could have been lying, she sometimes made things up!) After the stock
market crash in '29 she returned to Bassett, NE, where she opened the
local hotel. Grampa would never let my Aunt Erma work there, claiming it
was also the local bordello. Madame Maude -- well, in Bassett there wasn't
any place else for people to go to play around. One hotel, two churches,
three bars?" (Molly Leonard, 15 Jun 1999.)

Martha G. Emperson were married before 1910. Ralph worked as a blacksmith with his brother, Joe. After marrying, he went back to farming on the Leonard homestead. When his wife's health turned bad, the family moved back to town of Ainsworth and Ralph returned to blacksmithing. Ralph was a vigorous 60 when he was elected sheriff and served for 8 years. He and
Minnie Mauch were married about 1925. He died on 21 November 1973 at age 84 in Ainsworth, Brown County, Nebraska.
He and Martha were married at the time of the 1910 Census, living next door to brother Joseph R. and wife. In the 1920 Census, the family was living in Kirkwood, Rock Co., NE. Ralph was a farmer. In the 1930 Census, the family was living in Bassett, Rock Co., NE. Ralph was a farm buyer (?). His wife had died, and he had remarried. His son Harold is presumed to have died also.
