In 1869 Jonathan paid $100 for two shares of stock in the new Holly, Wayne & Monroe Railroad. He also gave the reailroad the right-of-way through his farm on the condition that one northbound and one southbound train would stop in Highland each day.
In 1882 Jonathan built a new home for his family, a stately brick house at the northwest corner of Milford and West Wardlow roads.
He bought a Cartercar between 1906 and 1916.

He fought the railroad (Holly, Wayne & Monroe Railroad) in the early 1870's. "Unless they make a RR stop here in Highland and across from the farm house," he would not grant them right of way. They did.
