George Hall
M, #17420, b. 23 October 1710, d. 20 June 1754
Parents
Biography
George Hall was born on 23 October 1710 in Taunton, Bristol County, Massachusetts. He and
Eunice Gates were married on 17 October 1738. He died on 20 June 1754 at age 43 in Ellington, Tolland County, Connecticut. He was buried in Laysville Cemetery, Laysville, Connecticut.
George Hall leased land from Samuel Southworth in order to erect an ironworks in Lyme, CT, in 1737. The agreement mentions a sawmill and a corn mill, as well as some privileges for Samuel Southworth in providing charcoal to the ironworks. There is no mention of Seth Leonard in their agreements (Lyme Land Records, Grantee 6:186 and 7:271). Isaac Hall later (in 1741) received half of the ironworks, after Samuel Southworth sold to George Hall his interest in the ironworks. The ironworks was operational from 1741 to 1793. It did most of the forging for ships built in the area and produced cannons, cannonballs, gun barrels, and bayonets before and during the Revolutionary War. There are more records relating to Hall ownership between 1747 and 1793.
