He and Julia Ann Whitney were married on 31 December 1879 in Vernon, Oneida County, New York. He and Kate B. Bennett were married about 1893. He died on 15 December 1921 at age 66 in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois.1 He was buried on 19 December 1921 at Mount Hope Cemetery in Chicago, Illinois.
He changed his name to Edward Gray Leonard. He was a butcher and a gambler. He remarried in Chicago to a wealthy woman. They owned a high rise office building in Chicago. At the time of the 1910 Census, he was a real estate office manager.

1900 Census says he was born in April 1850. Birth date calculated from age at death comes to 1857. 1858 was listed on his death certificate. Other sources list 1855. He and Kate were living in Hyde Park. They had been married 16 years and had no children. He listed his occupation as farmer.

He died of myocarditis with cardiac asthma, contributory chronic nephritis. He was living at 6137 South Justin St., Chicago, when he died. Frederick aka Edward Gray Leonard had person sources.2 He lived in Whitestown, Oneida, New York, in 1860. He lived at Ward 04 in Utica, Oneida, New York, in 1865.
