George Leonard came to the U.S. from Germany when he was six years old, with his father, mother, two brothers and one sister. His father died at sea on the trip to the U.S. He was sold to John Paden of Lancaster County to pay his way over till 21 years of age. He saw his mohter but once after being sold. He was married to a Ms. Erford. They had 1 daughter, Margaret, born 11-21-1769. She never married and died when about 30 years old. After the death of his wife, he remarried to Catherine Fullinger. George and Catherine live to be in their 80's. They purchased a farm in Donnally Mills in 1777. Catharine slept out in the wehat shocks at night on account of the Indians who they were afraid of at that time, and the children were trained to hide at her word like wild turkeys. Bears and wolves abounded also in the neighborhood at that time.
This information received from David Leonard in April 1891 at his home near Donnally Mills. David was a grandson of George.
This line requires validation.

“In the name of God, Amen. The 9th day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fiftysix, I Philip Leonard of Juniata Township, Perry County, Pennsylvania, farmer, being through the blessing of God in a sound state of mind and memory but calling to mind the frail tenure of this life, and that it is appointed to all men [...] to die, do make and ordain this my last will and testatment, that is to say, principally and first of all I recommend my soul into the hands of Almighty God, who give it me, and the disposal of my body I leave to the entire discretion of my friends. With respect to my Worldly estate, I give - bequeath and dispose of it in the manner and proportions here following, to wit.
First, I give and bequeath to my youngest son James M. Leonard all my real estate, land and tenements for which he must keep his mother and myself comfortable during our natural lives, and also to pay five hundred dollars to my other four children, as follows. each one to get one hundred and twenty five dollars, that is to say Benjamin Franklin Leonard, Catherine, married to William M. Stewart, and Jane married to Jonathan Hufford, and also George L. Leonard which amounts to the $500.00 above mentioned. James is not bound to pay any of the above until the end of one year after our decease but if he finds himself able it is my will that he should pay George sooner. But if none should be paid till after our decease then George is to have his first, Jane 2 next, Franklin 3rd, Catherine Stewart 4. Each of the foregoing legacies is to be paid yearly, to commence at the time fixed on the other side of this paper, and in the order laid down in the last line on the other side of this paper. I will and bequeath to my dearly beloved wife Ellen all the personal estate I may be possessed of at the time of my decease, which she may dispose of as she may think proper, but what ever just debts I may owe must be paid out of my personal estate. My debts if any, will be very small and I do hereby utterly disallow, revoke and disannul all and every other former testaments, wills, legacies bequeaths and executors by me in any way before named, willed and bequeathed. Ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my last will and testatment, and I do hereby appoint Benjamin F. Leonard and James L. Leonard, two of my sons to be my executors.
