Biography

Capt. Bennett J. Munro was born on 30 December 1775. He and Alethea Ingraham were married on 17 November 1796 in Bristol, Bristol County, Rhode Island. He and Sarah Munro were married on 20 January 1800 in Bristol, Rhode Island. He died on 22 February 1809 at age 33 in Bristol, Bristol County, Rhode Island.

"Bennett was a master mariner in the days of Bristol's maritime prosperiity. During a storm while on his last return voyage, in his anxiety to save his vessel and crew, he exposed himself so long at the wheel that his limbs became frost-bitten, and he took a severe cold, terminating in constumption, from which he died February 22, 1809, while the salute in honor of Washington's birthday was being fired.
