Biography

Horatio Leonard was born on 10 July 1816 in Rochester, Plymouth County, Massachusetts.¹ He and Emeline Hardwick Tobey were married on 29 November 1838 in Middleborough, Plymouth County, Massachusetts. He died on 4 July 1880 at age 63 in Middleborough, Plymouth County, Massachusetts.

He was a grocer, later a merchant and occupied Hathaway's works at the corner of Fifth Street and School Street in New Bedford, making oil and candles. At one time the Leonard family were manufacturing about one-tenth of the sperm and whale oil imported into the United States. Horatio Leonard had person sources.^2,3,4
