Biography

Dr. Perez Fobes was born on 21 September 1742 in Bridgewater, Plymouth County Massachusetts. He and Prudence Wales were married about 1767 in Raynham, Bristol County, Massachusetts. He died on 23 February 1812 at age 69 in Raynham, Bristol County, Massachusetts. He was buried at Town Center Cemetery in Raynham, Massachusetts.¹

Graduated from Harvard 1762, ordained minister at Raynham inm 1766, elected Professor of Natural Philosophy at Brown University in 1786. D.D., L.L.D. "While a universal scholar, he had a peculiar taste for philosophy. He was a kind parent, able preceptor, eminent divine, animated preacher, and faithful pastor." He wrote the Genealogical Memorial of the Leonard Family in the Massachusetts Historical Society Collections and also a History of Raynham, 1794. See NEHGS Register, 1851, p. 412. "While a universal scholar he had a peculiar taste for philosophy. He was the kind parent, able preceptor, eminent divine, animating preacher & faithful pastor. His faith in the Gospel he preached was exhibited in the various duties of temperance, righteousness and piety..."
