Biography
Addison Leonard was born on 30 December 1782 in Rutland, Rutland County, Vermont.
1 He and
Elizabeth Robbins ("Betsey") Clark were married in 1806 in New York. He died on 27 December 1861 at age 78 in Kenosha, Kenosha County, Wisconsin. He was buried in 1861 in Kenosha, Kenosha, Wisconsin.
Addison Leonard was buried at Lot 198, Green Ridge Cemetery, in Kenosha County, Wisconsin. Did Addison really marry twice? The other time to Elizabeth Goodridge? Two families? Or are we mixing two different Addisons here. Was he born in VT or in Wethersfield, Hartford Co., CT, in 1781? Did he really live to be 115? Was he War of 1812 veteran? Death record for his daughter has him born in CT.
He may have been the Addison Leonard, customer of a store in Dover, VT, in 1810.
Alternatively, was he born in 1781 in Gainesville, NY? Or was he born in 1791 in Rutland?
He was residing in Bristol, Kenosha Co., WI at the time of the 1850 Census. It would appear the family moved to Wisconsin by way of Ohio around 1845. Before that, they were residing in Cortland, NY. His son, John, was living with them, as well as Esther Goodridge. Mrs. E. Goodridge bought the cemetery lot where Addison, Justus, and Elizabeth are buried in Kenosha, WI.
Descendant, George, of Addison is in haplogroup R1b, assuming genealogy is correct. He served in the military Private New York State Militia in 1814 in New York. He lived in Bristol, Kenosha County, Wisconsin, in 1850.

Job Strong Leonard
M, #36865, b. 1750, d. 19 January 1823
Biography
Job Strong Leonard was born in 1750 in Connecticut. 1740 is the birth date estimate in DAR records. Other estimates: ca. 1754, CT. Not sure Lenox was available to settlement until 1750. 1750 is in Find-a-grave. He and
Elizabeth ("Betsy") Walker were married about 1779. He and
Lucy Perkins were married after 1811 in Granville, Washington County, New York. He died on 19 January 1823 at age ~73 in Granville, Washington County, New York. Per North Granville Church records. Job was a deacon. He was buried on 21 January 1823 at Bethany Cemetery in Truthville, Washington, New York.
Or was he born in 1740 in Lenox, MA? Did he marry (2) Susanna? There appear to be at least 5 daughters missing, according to the 1790, 1800, 1810, and 1820 Censuses. I can find no record of him being born in Wethersfield, CT, nor of his wife Elizabeth Walker being born there.
Job S. Leonard signed the Nonconsumption Agreement in 1774 in Lenox, MA. By 1774, he must have been accepted as an adult citizen in Lenox. Lenox was not populated as a town until the 1760's, so it is unlikely that Job was born there.
A Job Leonard of Lenox was a private in Col. Henry Sherburne's regt., Continental pay accounts for service from 5 Apr 1777 to 4 Apr 1780; residence, Lenox; reported discharge; also, Capt. Joshua Trafton's company., Col. Sherburne's regt.; muster roll dated Camp Middel Town, 21 Aug 1778. DAR credits Capt. Trafton's record. He was a member of the Green Mountain Boys and fought at Bennington, Ticonderoga, and Crown Point. He is also said to have been on the staff of General Gates. This Job would appear to be Job Strong Leonard.
A history related to Job's son, Henry, states that Henry was the youngest son of Col. Job Leonard of Norton, Bristol Co., MA, and that Col. Leonard was on the staff of General Gates at the battle of Saratoga and perhaps in the action at Bennington that preceded it. There were two Col. Leonards at Bennington, but no Col. Job Leonard. One, Col. David Leonard of West Springfield, MA, was a Lt. Col. in Col. Ruggles Woodbridge's regt. and may have taken part in that engagement. Another was Nathaniel Leonard, a major, then Lt. Col., in Col. Timothy Walker's regt. Note that Job Strong Leonard married Betsy, perhaps related to Col. Timothy Walker. Several Rev. War soldiers listed service in Col. Leonard's regt. (but which Col. Leonard?) at Ticonderoga. Job Strong Leonard named a son Nathaniel about whom little is known. This is all very confusing and requires additional research. Nathaniel as a name runs in the Strong family.
Nathaniel Strong had a son, Job Strong, born in 1721 in Northampton, MA, graduated from Yale 1747, installed as pastor Portsmouth, NH, died 1751. His widow later married Woodbridge Odlin, Harvard 1738. Nathaniel was married (2) to the widow, Penelope Philips. Her.1st husband was Samuel Leonard 1708-1744, great grandson of John Leonard 1615-1676 of Springfield. One would assume that Job Strong Leonard was named after an admired John Strong born in the years right after he died, but no such link has been found.
Job Leonard, said to be of Vermont and one of the "Green Mountain Boys," fought at the Battles of Bennington, Ticonderoga, and Crown Point in the Revolutionary War (per DAR - Hannah Leonard Stone).
The "History of Poultney, VT" mentions Deacon Job Leonard on page 222. This Job Leonard was the son of John Leonard and was the MD who settled in Winhall, VT, about this time. It was not Job Strong Leonard
The Broughton family is mentioned on this and the preceding page. John Broughton, Jr., b 1754, d. 31 May 1811, Poultney. His widow, Lucy Perkins Broughton, married Deacon Job Leonard of Granville as his second wife. She would have been past childbearing age.
A Job Leonard is listed in Becket, Berkshire Co., MA, in the 1790 Census, family of 5 females, 2 males, one of which is under 16. In 1800, what appears to be the same Job is in Granville, NY, with a family of 4 males and 5 females. In 1810, Job, still in Granville, has a household of 3 males and 5 females. The latter two are certainly Job Strong Leonard.
Job Leonard was appointed 2nd deacon in 1802 in Granville, NY.
Administration of estate of Job Leonard of Granville, Washington Co., NY granted to Henry Leonard 27 Feb 1822 (WashCW LA III:99). (A year before he died, 19 Jan 1823?)
There appear to be 12 family trees in ancestry.com relating to Job Strong Leonard and Addison Leonard, but there are many contradictions and things that would need the logic explained in the trees that make them questionable. None of the trees extend down to the current day. One indicates his parents as Abiel Leonard and Abigail Elliott, but they have children already in the period from 1746 to 1760. Another parent is rumored to be George Leonard. Yet another possibility are Moses and Beulah Leonard, although I see little evidence supporting. One current male descendant has been tested in haplogroup R1b (doublecheck), another in haplogroup J2. It would be useful to fill out the tree and also identify more current direct male descendants who could be tested.
There's a Simeon Leonard, born abt. 1786 in VT, also living in Winhall, where another Job Leonard family, son of John and Ruth, was living.
A Job Strong, son of Jonathan Strong and Hannah Ellsworth, was born 18 Jan 1730 in Bolton, Tolland Co., CT, bap. there 8 Feb 1730. He apparently went to Yale, A.M. 1751, married Damaris Strong 1763, had a son, Job, b. 1766. Job died 16 May 1800 in Easthampton, Hampshire Co., MA 16 May 1800. An Elijah Leonard graduated from Yale in 1783, but that would have been too late to have any relevance to Job Strong Leonard.
Middle names didn't really come into vogue until after 1775. Why does Job Strong Leonard sport one?
There was a Job Leonard b. 11 Dec 1791, father Job, mother Susannah (Taunton VR's). Could the father be Job Strong Leonard?
Some of the Internet ancestries for Job Strong Leonard have him descending from George Leonard. Job Strong Leonard served in the military Private of Sherburne's Regiment Continental Infatnry from 5 April 1777 to 1783 in Connecticut.

Job Leonard was also known as Job Leonard. He and
Betsey Townsend were married. He was a physician living with his wife, daughter, and son and children in Winhall, Bennington Co., VT, at the time of the 1850 Census. He appears first in the 1810 Census in Stockbridge, Windsor Co., VT, with a household of 4, 2 males, 2 females. In the 1820 Census, the household is in Winhall and includes 5 males, 3 under 10, 1 female under 10, and 1 female 10-15.
This Job Leonard of Winhall, Bennington County, VT, served in the 1814 VT Constitutional Convention.
There is confusion as to whether this Job Leonard is Job Strong Leonard, son of Job Strong Leonard. MA Town & VR, 1620-1988, list this Job Leonard, born 16 Oct 1785 in Framingham, as the son of John and Ruth Leonard of Southborough, MA. This Job Leonard is listed in Vermont VR's as born abt. 1785 in Southborn (sic), MA, also born 16 Oct 1785, died 18 Nov 1857 in Winhall, Bennington Co., married Betsey Townsend, an M.D. He had person sources.
