Family 2: Anna Hammond (b. 14 July 1616, d. 25 February 1687)
Biography
Rev. John Lothrop was born on 20 December 1584 in Etton, Yorkshire, England. He and
Hannah House were married on 10 October 1610 in Eastwall, Kent, England. He and
Anna Hammond were married on 27 September 1634 in Scituate, Plymouth County, Massachusetts. He died on 8 November 1653 at age 68 in Barnstable, Barnstable County, Massachusetts.
See E. B. Huntington, a Genealogical Memoir of the Lo-Lathrop Family in This Country (Ridgefield, CT, 1884).
He was baptized at Etton, Yorkshire 20 December 1584. He graduated from Cambridge University with a B.A. in 1605 and an M.A. in 1609. He became curate of the church at Egerton, county Kent, from about 1611 to 1623. In 1623 he was called to succeed Rev. Henry Jacob (who had left for Virginia) at the First Independent Church in Southwark, Surrey. Independent worship being illegal, Lothrop's services were conducted in secret. In 1632 he was imprisoned and in 1634 released on bail. He arrived in America on the Griffin in September 1634 and settled in Scituate.
Children include Thomas, John, Benjamin, Jane, and Deborah, and possibly Elizabeth, but uncertain as to mothers. Rev. John Lothrop had person sources.
