Biography

Willard Leonard was born on 29 October 1799 in Keene, Cheshire County, New Hampshire. He and Amy Larey were married on 23 April 1826. He died on 18 July 1882 at age 82 in Glover, Orleans County, Vermont.
In 1819 he removed with his father to Gover, VT, where he purchased a saw and grist mill, later exchanging those for land in Glover. He was very athletic and a great walker, ocassionaly walking from Glover to Keene, a distance of 150 miles, in 3 days. On one occasion,he had to pay a bill in Barton, 3 miles distant. He covered the 6 miles, paid the bill, and was back at the grist mill in 30 minutes. He represented his town in the State Legislature in 1838, 1840, and 1850. Willard Leonard had person sources.1

Job Kells was born about 1837 in New York. He and Emma S. Conklin were married on 25 October 1872. He died on 8 February 1909 at age ~72 in Syracuse, Onondaga County, New York.
He enlisted in Co. G, 128th Regiment, NY Volunteer Infantry on 30 Jul 1862 and served until discharged in Savannah, GA, 20 Jul 1865. The regiment was assigned to the 1st Brigade, Sherman's Division, 19th Corps, and participated in engagements at Gainesville, MS, Pontchatoula, LA, Siege of Port Hudson, Red River Campaign including the Cane River Crossing, Alexandria, Mansura, Halltown, Opequon, Fishers Hill, Sheridans Ride, Campaign of the Carolinas including Johnston's surrender. Job was wounded by a gunshot in the left leg at Port Hudson, LA, 27 May 1863 and was in the Church hospital, New Orleans, for 3 months. Job was born in Claverack, 5'9" tall, light complexion, grey eyes, sandy hair, and by occupation at blacksmith. At his death he was residing at 1001 Cumberland Avenue, Syracuse, NY. His Civil War pension file is #127498.

James Martin Kells was born on 16 March 1844 in Claverack, Columbia County, New York. He and Mary Jane Wilcox were married about 1867. He died on 14 November 1923 at age 79 in Harford Mills, Cortland County, New York. He was buried in Harford Mills Cemetery.
He was referred to as Martin Kells in the 1910 Census. He was drafted from the Cortland, NY, area 17 Oct 1863, but paid the bounty of $300 to have a substitute go in his place. He and his brother Job both served in the Civil War and received pensions. #522448.

He is sometimes confused with James M. Leonard, also born in 1844, son of William H. Leonard and Mary Yager.
