Solomon Saul Leonard was born in June 1821 in Lewis County, Virginia. He and Matilda J. Rohrbough were married on 10 June 1867 in Upshur County, West Virginia.¹ He died in 1904 at age ~83.

In the 1880 Census, the family was living in Union, Upshur Co., WV. Solomon was a farmer.

In the 1900 Census, the family was living together in Union. Bertie, Franklin, and Cecil were also farmers. Kilia was teaching music.

In the 1910 Census, the family was living in Beverly, WV, where Fred was a merchant operating a general store. His brother (Willie?) was a farmer living with them.

In the 1920 Census, the family was still living in Beverly, where Fred was a merchant and brother Willie had become a salesman.

In the 1930 Census, the family was still living in Beverly, where Fred was a salesman and John C. was a teacher. Brother Willie was still living with them.
