Benjamin Cutler Leonard was born on 19 March 1823 in Marcellus (now Sennett), Cayuga County, New York. He and Martha Austin were married on 9 October 1849. He died in 1898 at age ~75.

Bowers Howe Leonard was born on 31 October 1835 in Marcellus (now Sennett), Cayuga County, New York. He and Elizabeth Cuykendall were married on 3 June 1858.

He attended the academy at Homer and the Institute at Clinton, NY. He engaged in business in Ct for two years, then visted Minnesota, but returned to New York in 1857. He married at Owasco and engaged in mercantile business at that place for 15 years, postmaster for 5 years. He removed to Auburn in 1876. He journeyed with his wife to California and Colorado, in which he had mining interests. He gave some attention to the genealogy of the family of Nathan Leonard. There is a 12 page typewritten summary of his recollections in existence somewhere. Bowers Howe Leonard had person sources.¹
