1 He and
Mary Lott were married about 1745 in Mendham, Morris County, New Jersey. He died in 1806 at age ~82 in Knox County, Ohio. He was buried in Beallsville, Washington County, Pennsylvania.
He moved from Morris Co., NJ, to Greene Co., PA, about the summer of 1776 ("there was a migration of some 20 to 30 families who left their homes in Morris Co., NJ, in 1777, to come to North Tenmile, but that being the "Bloody Year" (Indian raids on settlements) were compelled to return back over the mountains until the following season, when they came back to ake a permanent settlement). They settled in an area that had become Westmoreland Co. in 1773, then Washington Co., in 1781, and finally Greene Co. in 1795. In 1799 William and others traveled by horse across wild Ohio Territory to Indian country to seek a place for a Presbyterian colony, of which he was the elder leader. Three sons moved also: Amos, Benjamin, and Ziba. Sons Lot and David stayed in Greene Co., PA. William moved into an area in 1804 that in 1808 was formed into Knox Co., OH. His will was probated in 1808. His group had bought 800 acres from speculators in Knox County. After he died, his son Amos became the leader of the group and the County overseer who built the road that passed by their farms to the southeast from what became Mt. Vernon, the county seat. The part of Dighton where Caleb was born became Berkley in 1735. Caleb was 14 when his parents moved from MA to NJ. Caleb and his older brother, William, bought farms near each other in Mendham twp. on the east side of the settlement of the same name. The springs that produce the Passiac River are nearby, just south of the old Mendham to Morristown Road.
A Caleb Leonard is listed in the May 1776 Poll List for Mendham.
Caleb later bought 337 acres in Washington County, PA, that shows as first warranted by John Shephard, patented to Abraham Shephard. It was soon divided into three parts.
Will in Register of Wills Office in Washington County, p. 520, Will Book 2.
O. B. Leonard mentioned in "Stephen Banks Leonard" that tradition says Caleb Sr. also had two sons, Jesse, born about 1728, and William, born abt. 1730. William had sons Ziba, Amos, and Lot; and Lot had William John, and Lot. This appears to be a mix-up -- William was the brother of Caleb, Sr., and Jesse was his son. Caleb Leonard had person sources.

Silas Leonard

Parents
Biography
Silas Leonard was born on 18 March 1753 in Mendham, Morris County, New Jersey.
1 He and
Jemima Parkhurst were married in 1773. He and
Sarah Leeson were married in 1796. He died on 6 November 1851 at age 98 in Trumbull County, Ohio. He was buried at Boatman Cemetery in East Palestine, Columbiana County, Ohio.
Initial source is OneWorldTree -- check carefully. No information about children other than names. However, information from Allan Vaughan is thoroughly researched and supported by O.B. Leonard.
Silas was 14 when his father moved the family to the frontier in 1769, over the Allegheny Mountains and into the Monongahela River Valley in SW Pennsylvania.
Silas is listed on page 201 of the PA Archives, Sixth Series, Vol II, in the Return of the 6th, 75h, and 8th Classes of Capt. James Craven's Company, Fifth Batttalion, Washington County Militia, 22 May 1782. Brother Isaac was a Lt., Caleb, Jr. 4th Class, Silas 8th Class (per G. Allan Vaughan). In the Revolutionary War, Silas fought against Indians led by British and Tory rangers. (Is there a Rev. War pension file for Silas?)
There was a dispute over the lands in SW Pennsylvania between Virginia and Pennsylvania. See Allan Eckert, "That Dark and Bloody River" for a history of the area. The dispute was settled in 1781. Silas' land was patented to him in 1788, called Spicewood Thicket. Although he was taxed on it continuously starting in 1781, they sold "Spicewood Thicket" for $1200 to his nephew, Joseph Leonard, son of Caleb, Jr.
In 1813 he moved to an area on the Pennsylvania-Ohio border, on the Beaver County, PA, side of the line. His farm was on Little Beaver Creek. It was about one mile to the south of his sister Jemima Leonard Burt's farm on the other side of the OH-PA border in Columbiana Co. It was at 100 Little Beaver Twp., which became Darlington twp. (from deed 1814 and 1831 when he went to live with sons in Ohio.
In 1820, he moved to Trumbull Co., OH.
Did he have a son named Abner who married Margaret Reisinger? (Jane Peppler's genealogy) Did he have a daughter, Jemima? (O. B. Leonard)
Both Isaac and Silas are said to have married Jemima Parkhurst. There were at least two Jemima Parkhursts, in Morristown, probably more. One was the daughter of John Parkhurst and Mary Thomson; the other the daughter of Benjamin Parkhurst and Mary Ludlow. One was born in 1753 and the other in 1755.
