He was a blacksmith in Portsmouth and admitted a freeman there on 29 April 1673.

Christopher Holder and
Mary Scott were married on 12 August 1660 in Portsmouth, Newport County, Rhode Island.
Christopher arrived in Salem August 7, 1656, with William Brand and John Copeland. Officials took and burned the hundred books they brought and sent them to prison for 11 weeks. When released, they went south to Rhode Island. Christopher Holder's right ear was cut off September 10, 1658, in Boston for being a Quaker. Mary Scott received 10 stripes with a whip for the same offense. See History of Salem, MA, Vol. II, Quaker Persecution.

Richard Scott

Biography
Richard Scott was born in 1607 in Glemsford, Suffolk, England. He died about 1680 at age ~73 in Providence, Rhode Island.
He probably came on the Griffin in 1634 and initially settled in Boston. Due to the controversies over his wife's sister, Ann Hutchinson, he and his family moved to Providence, RI, in 1637. He lived next door to Roger Williams. He acquired lands at Moshasuck and also Patience Island, which he passed on to his daughter, Mary, and her husband, Christopher Holder.

Giles Slocum was born on 28 September 1623 in Old Cleve, Somersetshire, England. He and
Joan Cooke were married on 20 November 1641 in Old Cleve, Somerset, England, United Kingdom. He died on 12 March 1683 at age 59 in Portsmouth, Newport County, Rhode Island.
He came to Portsmouth, probably in the year 1638. He and his wife were early members of the Society of Friends. They were excommunicated from the Baptist Church in August 1673. He left a large bequest to the Society of Friends in 1681. He was an early purchaser of land in Dartmouth, MA, as early as 1669.
