Leonard Origins

Hypotheses

Hypotheses

Brian G. Awty and Bill Barton believed that the French ancestor of the “iron” Leonard line is a Quinton Leonard, not listed in the records. He had a son, Martin Lenard alias Quintin who was buried on 2 Mar 1591/2 at Burwash, a finer. Martin in turn had at least two sons, Henry Leonard alias Quintin baptized on 1 Jan 1561/2 at Etchingham, and his brother, John, baptized on 29 Jan 1547/8 at Frant, Sussex. Henry in turn had a male child, probably Thomas, baptized on 22 February 1591/2 at Fletching.

If the above hypotheses are to be proven, we should be looking for:

The marriage of Thomas Leonard and Elizabeth White in the 1616-1618 time frame;

Other children of Martin, Henry, and John;

Brian G. Awty’s research, “Adventures in Iron,” in two volumes, was published in 2019. Pages 266-274 address the Leonards directly. [1]
