Richard Remington was the Archdeacon of York and Elizabeth's father, Matthew Hutton was the Archbishop of York

This Richard may or may not be the Richard born in Lund in 1535, son of Richard b. 1485. Or, there may be another "Richard" (or other ancestor) between these two individuals. If this Richard is correct, his wife Elizabeth Hutton was 30 years his junior, and his last child was born when he was 65 years of age. Not impossible, but unlikely. Further research is necessary.

The Remington Family are first found in North Lancashire and Yorkshire, and various men of the name, were Freemen of the City of York early in the 14th century.
William Remington was Prior of Sawley Abbey, near Clitheroe, where his grave slab in the South Transept can be found. He was Chancellor of the University of Oxford in 1372. His writings against Wicliffe are still extant. His ring was in the possession of the Rev. Henry Remington.

Many of the Remington names were in Lincolnshire in the 16th and 17th centuries.
In the early years of the 15th century, Richard Remington of Raskelfe in the forest of Galtreas, was a gentleman of the horse to Henry Fitzroy, Duke of Richmond. His son, Richard Remington of Garrowby had a son, again a Richard, who was a Doctor of Divinity, and became parson of Lockington in 1598 and in 1615 died and was buried before the altar of Lockington Church.

For over a hundred years the Remingtons continued the patronage of Lockington Church, being squires of Garrowby and Lund.

Although a branch of the family had migrated to Melling in the North Lancashire, it is the Remingtons of Garrowby and Lund that had very numerous kindred in America, most of whom descend from John Remington and Elizabeth his wife, who were married in Yorkshire. He was the sixth and youngest son. Thus begins the Remingtons of America.
