Biography

Judson Wade Leonard was born on 3 July 1832 in Stafford, Tolland County, Connecticut. He and Roxanna Sherman ("Anna") Stoddard were married on 28 April 1864 in Hampden County, Massachusetts. He died on 8 April 1883 at age 50 in Hampden County, Massachusetts.
He was educated at Monson Academy and Amherst College. He went west to IL and returned to Hampden. He went to New York City and returned to Hampden in 1866. He became a successful businessman, although an invalid all his life. His gift made possible the Leonard Medical School and Hospital at Shaw University, Raleigh, NC. Deacon of Baptist Church in Woodstock, CT, for many years. In the 1860 Census, he was a farm laborer living with his wife Lovina in Eastford, Windham Co., CT. Halsey Leonard had person sources.2
