Jacob Francis Leonard was born on 14 August 1779 in New York City, New York. He and Catherine Gould were married on 13 December 1800 in Trinity Church Parish, New York, New York, New York. He died on 12 December 1870 at age 91 in Brooklyn, Kings County, New York.

A memorandum from the Rev. Morgan Dix, Rector of Trinity Church, notes that at the request of Mr. Ralph Wood Kenyon, the records of Trinity Church were checked for the marriage of John Gould and Lellis Eddo (23 Dec 1780), that the burial of Catherine Gould was not recorded (but there is no record of burials for the year 1813), and that the baptism of Jacob Leonard, born 22 Jan 1777, is not on record, but there is a record of a Jacob Francis Leonard born 14 Aug 1779, bapt. 21 Sep 1779, son of Jeffry and Margaret Leonard. Jacob Francis Leonard was baptized on 21 September 1779 at trinity Episcopal Church in New York City, New York. He apparently died before 1781, when a second Jacob was born into the family.
